I`m thinking of giving my wife a

I was going to recommend the new Ruger 327 but see a couple guys beat me to it. Another option is the new Charter Arms rimless revolver in .45acp and I'm not sure if it comes in 9mm as well.

I suppose any gun is better than no gun, so a 22 mag falls into that category for me.

For a legitimate defensive revolver, I would say .38 is the minimum with good ammo. I would prefer a .357 but that's just me. Smith and Wesson makes several J framed choices, I would suggest a bodyguard hammerless frame in 2" or 3", and I would prefer the stainless over the Aluminum or Scandium frames. The Model 640 fits the bill nicely. Get some good grips to fit her hand the best and then practice practice practice. The stainless steel's weight will damp the recoil down a bit and make it more pleasant to shoot.

Or if she prefers a lighter revolver, and you want to have a "Practice" gun and a carry piece then the aluminum frame 442 or even a 340 would be excellent as well...

At the end of the day the best one is what she is most comfortable I suppose.

My wife used to shoot a 5 shot S&W M36 with 3" barrel. Did not like the recoil. I thought grips were kinda small.

Gave her my Charter Arms 44 Spl alloy fame. has fatter grips. more power and she loves the gun. has same power as a 45ACp 230 FMJ.

But a .22 mag can hurt you very bad brother, A good shot placement can kill no matter what cal.

I know that a 22 mag can hurt you bad and without turning this thread into something else, a 22 mag is in my opinion not what you want in a life or death situation. Good shot placement is not always available in the life or death situation.

Yes, yes, yes a 22 mag will take down lots of animals like the grizzly bear around Kinouso etc but the ideal carry gun? I think not.

Its her conifindence to use the gun that is also an issue, 38/357 she will hesitate...22mag, no problem. Better the 22mag in hand than a 357 in the bag.

honestly if i could find a double action rev in 5.7mm x 28mm then that would be perfect

I have to agree with others. Have her try a .32

Some of the other revolver brands mayhaps as well?
Charter Arms
Ruger
Dan Wesson
Taurus

Heck maybe something small from NAA like a Black Widow.

Charter used to make a 44 Special snubby, and they were actually a pussycat to shoot. It's unlikely she'd ever need to shoot it though - the muzzle looks HUGE on a snubby frame.
