I made a mistake making deal, how do I fix this?

On the EE I posted a want ad for a Glock 21 in OD Green but if the price was right I wanted a Glock 21 in black.

So, what happened is I accidentally wrote to the person who has the pistol I wanted to buy asking them a bunch of dumb questions that I already knew about the pistol that I had asked them previously, round count, sights, any cosmetic wear and I wrote the person who had just emailed me about their pistol and literally "Sounds GREAT, it's SOLD, I will TAKE IT! Thanks for the great deal."

I realized I sent the first email to the wrong person and so I quickly followed up and asked them the questions, not realizing I did send them the email saying I would buy the pistol. I thought I had smoothed things over but now they're pretty adimant about me buying their Glock.

I don't want this Glock, I want the other, what should I do?
 
I'd let ya off the hook if I were the seller, it sounds like an honest mistake to me. No harm done I'd put it back up for sale.
Explain your situation to the seller and see what they say first before making any rash decisions.
 
You are entitled to buyers remorse. There was a deal, you made a mistake which may mean the seller is upset, but thats there problem. If the seller doesn't have your money, then there isn't much they can do. Take you to court, ok - the court costs eat away the sale of the gun. Not a realistic option. Plus the sale of any gun is pending the CFO approval.

My 2 cents.

If your story is true, you are sadly disorganized and have earned a negative rating and entrance into the "flaky buyer" category. The guy can't force you to buy it, so if I was the seller, I'd just leave the rating and move on.

Sure, everyone is entitled to buyer's remorse and the negative trader rating that potentially goes along with it.

Brian if that's seriously your attitude and that it's the seller's problem if someone gives their word, even by mistake, and attempts to back out of a deal then there's such as thing as an unspoken negative trader rating. You've racked up at least one today, maybe more.

The options for timothygordon are:

1) Explain the situation, beg forgiveness hope the seller is an understanding person. I'd probably let you off the hook but if he won't you can:

2) Buy both guns. Resell the one you don't want.

3) Refuse to proceed with the purchase and risk a negative trader rating and accept that some people will be reluctant to do business with you.

Damn, this post is confusing the hell out of me. I've read it 3 times and it still doesn't make sense. Is it any wonder there's a problem.
 
No buyers remorse at all! What happened is there is someone on the exchange who contacted me and I want their pistol. I already had all the details of the deal pretty much banged out, I was sending them a message saying Yes I want it but I accidentally sent it to another person who contacted me with their pistol as well. I haven't been responding to ads, it's been people responding to my wanted to buy ads.

So effectively I told the wrong person, Yes I will buy it. I have explained the situation but they seem relatively adamant on holding me to buying it. I don't want say much more about it because I don't want to offend them.
 
as a seller. selling is a hobby, im not trying to make a living out of it so even after you say "i'll take it" and backs out of it within a short period of time , say a few hours, i will let you off the hook , why? cos i price my product to sell, if you dont buy it, someone else will and if no one else buys it then i will keep for another year. im not selling to trap anyone.

so get back to the seller and explain what a dumb mistake you made.

IF that was me, I'd sen the another message maying 'please disreguard my last PM" and explain the sitution. the new message wouldn've came on top and if you sent the 2nd message fast enough he wouldn't get his hopes up. Now if the other guy wants to leave the negative trader rating he has the right to do so; but you're not obligated to buy the gun you don't want...

I agree! I too have had many people back out and explain their situation. Almost everytime it seemed like a legitimate reason, so I just gracefully let them off the hook.

But if they didn't explain themselves and was rude about it, I would have no issues with leaving them with a negative trader rating.

Sorry to hear about your situation, if the buyer wants to hold you to it, I guess the best thing to do is buy it and put it up on the EE. Good luck!
 
I have a rem 1100 3" that I bought, mistakenly, at auction. Thought I was bidding on an 11-87 with interchangeable chokes. The 11-87 sold a few minutes later for less $ than I bid for the 1100. Couldn't just cry "oops" and say no thanks, so I bought it and use it, that is just the way things are.

If the fellow doesn't want to let you out of the deal, then you need to suck it up and follow through on your word, given mistakenly or not. If not, well then your trader rating will suffer. Chalk it up as lesson learned, and shoot the damn black one. Paint it green yourself if it is that important.
 
I wish Claybuster would attack the seller as much as he felt the need to question my integrity. The wonderful thing about the internet is people hide behind the anonymous nature of the internet.
I deleted my first message because I didn’t not want to get into a war with a CGN'r who has over 3000 post to their credit - I don’t have that much time on my hand. I shoot too much.

Just to make Claybuster happy - I must people a horrible person to deal with (check my trader rating )

I did write a follow-up. Right after I sent the message saying I would take it, literally a minute later I wrote the follow-up explaining what happened. I WOULD buy both if I could afford to but I simply can't. It's not a matter of me being cheap, it's taken me a few months to set aside enough cash for a really GOOD deal on a G21!

I really appreciate everyones insight, I received some harsh criticism but frankly I wasn't trying to pull the proverbial wool over anyones eyes or trying to back out of a deal, feeling buyers remorse or anything to that affect.

Thanks for your time everyone, I appreciate it very much, I just wanted some insight into what to do, if I was being reasonable, if they're being reasonable and just generally what to do.

ETA..okay now it makes sense.
Sonds like an honest mistake to me. If I was the seller you accidently sent the message to I'd understand. Especially if you sent the follow up right away.

Send him a message and explain yourself. He might let you off the hook.

If not, then you have to live with your mistake:

1) Back out and risk a negative trader rating.
or
2) Buy it and re-sell it to save face.

Either way, just be honest about the situation. Most people are reasonable and likely to be understanding.

If anything, I bet you have learned to pay attention who you are sending messages to.;)
