It's always better to buy what you actually want then just what you can afford. This is how visa makes money..... The savings are substantially greater then buying and then having to sell or trade to upgrade. I think it's cheaper for me in the long run to buy quality
Feel that? Check your wallet but its already gone... You enjoy these next few months, as you one by one upgrade each and every piece of glass you own. Now is the time to start thinking up exit strategies for when the wife decides to audit your gun collection.
I'm just using some cheap Tasco's that I picked up. The old set, that put mine to shame, didn't have any brand name or any other marking, so we don't know what they are.
I think we need some details photos of her in skin so we can
come up with a great come back about why she should let you
spend kerch$ng on a really good scope.
The better the photos, the better the thought process on our end.

When I bought binoculars, I went to Henry's as they have lots of choices. I looked through almost every set they had and the brightest, sharpest & clearest image was Pentax by a huge margin. That was 10 years ago and they are still as good as new. I recommend you try them all & do it in relatively low light also to get the best understanding of the amount of light they allow in.

Buying quality only hurts once!
Buy quality optics the first time
I learned the lesson a long time ago.... When it comes to optics, there is no substitute for quality. When the price begins to hurt, you are getting close.
Cheap binoculars will suck the eyes out of your head after only 15 minutes of use. Quality binoculars can be used for hours at time with no problem.
If you buy cheap, you will buy twice.

First there are the binos.
Then the Rifle scope - usually this is plural...
Then the spotting scope
Then the rangefinder which leads to the need for a different type of binoculars.
And so forth.
Buying Quality is a lifelong addiction and there is just always "one more I promise...."
for great value in binos - look at what the Birders use. Nikon and Pentax always rate highly for the money spent.

hmmm sounds like you should avoid looking threw Schmidt& bender or March optics, to my eyes, the difference between my S&Bs to my buddies nightforce is night and day, after buying my first SB iv yet to buy any thing but them.... needless to say my "play money" accound is almost empty all the time due to them

It hurts when you first buy it because as others have said, cheaping out isn't the answer! Point is & I think you are agreeing, that you only have to buy it once if you buy quality. Buy a good set of binos or a scope etc & it can last a lifetime. Not so with the cheap brands. Lucky if they last a year, then you're out that $$$ and need to spend more to buy what you should have bought in the first place. If you buy quality & later want to upgrade then at least you'll have some resale value in whatever instead of a broken paperweight reminding to never cheap out again as it costs more in the long run. Like a I say, I think we're on the same page & yes ........ quality is addictive!
