I may be old, but where are the guns?

I haven't bought a new rifle in about 20 years. Decided I wanted a lever action, and priced some out last fall. A nice 30-30, or perhaps a .357? All were gone in a week, and I haven't seen anything since. Do I need to wait until the fall? Is it just a strange year, or is this normal these days?

Being old as you put it I am sure you want to spin a good yarn for a few days about a potential purchase to your old crony buddies, fast forward to a gen x or millennial who decide in about 5 seconds puts you out of the game

Short supply and high demand right now, so depending on what specifically you’re looking or you may be waiting a while.

Marlin is currently out of production (they were sold to Ruger who say they’ll be back in production late 2021) currently and likely won’t see any new ones until next year.

What coming in from the other manufacturers goes quick, especially at the cheaper end of the price range.

Good luck!

Was looking for a .357 lever for a few years, managed to snag one from CSC a few months ago when they announced they had a new shipment in. Most were sold over night, a couple were left after a few days. No supply, high demand (maybe due to lack of supply). Keep searching the site sponsors, send out emails and ask them when they may be getting a shipment in - not much more to it.

Lever guns seem especially harder to find as of late, but 357 has always been hard to find for years now. 30-30 and 45-70 seem to be in stock more often, but there is short supply right now. As mentioned above, Ruger bought marlin and hasn’t set up shop yet and in the USA the whole pandemic, BLM unrest, and democratic president with potential gun restrictions has spurred incredible gun buying of any style gun, so fewer guns are making it this way.

Ruger is already set up; they announced a while back that the Marlin workers were on the factory floor and production of Marlin branded firearms was well underway with “new” product hitting retail in early fall. Likely be a little longer before we see them up here, but the process is well-underway.

A Joe Biden win in the U.S. election has sent gun sales through the roof in the States with many gun shops sold out . Add in the reduced production in some cases due to Covid restrictions , and you have the perfect storm with some Canadian dealers not being able to get their normal supply of firearms and ammo . In short , we are riding out a storm .

If ypu priced some out last fall, good chance they've gone up by $200. I know wincheater levers have gone up about that much for a new one.

There is a multitude of lever action rifles on the market, as much as there is whitetail deer......................all you have to do is find them.

You need to contact Mike from Canmore.
He has the lever action market cornered , that's why they all disappear quickly when posted in the EE.

Ummm... Everything was sold out long before the election. Between Covid and unarmed black people being killed by police and the riots that ensued the panic buying atmosphere existed long before the election.

While I'm sure the election results aren't helping, the shelves were already bare before the impact of the election could take hold.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I missed the boat in Fall 2020. Hopefully at least some things will be back to normal soon...

Well You missed the boat, but You will find one. You basically have to jump on them the minute they are in stock. I had to do that when my brother was waiting for is RPAL to show up in the mail. He wanted a couple handguns, so while they were in stock I bought them and kept them until his license showed up in the mail. Simple transfer and he got the guns he wanted. It worked out well for me because I got to try them out and fondler them lol for a month. Long story short, you gotta buy one the minute its in stock. I’ve missed out on a few guns because I hummed and hawed.

joe biden, what a laugh that Clown is, just like his ex-boss, a degenerate liberal out to make as much money as he can off low income and uneducated workers.

True but they are moving faster lately.
Partly due to desolation of Marlin, partly due to 1 May gun ban and partly due to lever gun enthusiasts seeking out that one variant that fulfills a certain desire.
The BLR and the more recent Henry Long Ranger only contributes to this present market demand.
All trappers move fast on the EE. Same as Marlin 39A.
Marlin Special Editions move fast too.
A brand new Marlin 39A goes for 3200 real dollars from thier custom shop.

Is a perfect storm of sorts.
