Inhambane area in July. The beaches were empty and the the water was full of whales.

I'll likely never get to hunt in Africa myself but I sure enjoy watching others having the thrill of a lifetime. The documentary was excellent - Thanks for sharing.

i miss the african bush as well and i lived and worked there but i doubt i will miss the chaos i had to deal as well for more than a minute ... but give me one minute where the lion is roaring with the sun getting low or hippos making their noises in the water or elephants having mud baths and im back ...

Is mark Sullivan still guiding these days ?

Last I heard he was expanding his operation to hunt water buffalo in Australia, and might be doing some guiding in Alaska. He's not a spring chicken any more, and those long hikes and a bit of a heart problem might be starting to slow him down.

I absolutely agree with those who have experienced the communist take over of former colonies on the African continent, which by the way has led to no improvements to the citizens still living there, and in some cases has led to the targeted murder of farmers and other land and business owners. I used to be friendly with a doctor from RSA, and he painted a pretty grim picture for those still there.

Still, as a hunting destination, SE Africa has much to offer, once you're in the bush and away from the cities. If there was one thing I didn't care for, it was the number of people who tagged along. The PH, his tracker ( a truly wonderful man) a government game scout (like taking a CO hunting with you) water boys ( who looked after a wide range of chores from carrying water, to setting grass fires to, butchering game, to assisting with setting up blinds and baits) Sullivan's camera man, then the folks who paid to be there. For a guy who has hunted solo his entire life, it was quite a change, and one that is not evident from watching the videos.

Actually on a clear windless summer day, the Yukon feels hotter to me than Tanzania did in July; in fact early mornings are see your breath cold. Botswana is said to have a perfect Mediterranean climate year round., but I haven't been there.

I've really enjoyed hunting South Africa and Namibia. And Kenya / Tanzania parks were fantastic for wildlife viewing and photography. Zimbabwe is my next destination. I was days away from booking my third African hunting safari when Covid lockdowns and travel bans became the new normal. Looking forward to the time when I can book with confidence - Tuskless elephant and buffalo, with additional hunting for eland and bushbuck and fishing in the Zambezi river for Tigerfish. Perhaps in 2022! Seems like a long time to wait to hear lions at sunset and elephants at dawn.

I'm sure Africa is going to miss young PH Phillip Smythe. He was trampled by an elephant on Dec 22 while guiding and suffered 2 arm breaks, one leg break, internal bleeding and back broken in two places- one severed his spinal cord. He passed away yesterday.

Ive recently watched many hours of vids on lions and their prides, I dont think I would ever want to be a lion. lol They live a hard life and they can be killed at any time, young or old.
