I miss Century... anyone else?

why were they driven out?

Bill C68.

There were a number of great companies that either went out of business or moved back to the US back then. Lots of employees out of work, lots of tax dollars lost.

Really, the government only screwed themselves in the long run; gun sales still continued as you can see today, but the lack of competition, among other factors, only drove the prices up.

LOL, I always loved the odd images they had, the guy out with his pooch always seemed a little odd.

Surplus days are pretty over, so Century rarely gets anything good anymore. Last guns they had came from the closing of Springfield Sporters and those were pretty much junk.

Before their decline, Le Baron was also a good spot for surplus. Their catalog always listed more than they have in stock, but in late 80's early 90's if you visited them often, you were often in for a treat! Isn't Districorp now CanadaAmmo?? I recall getting orders from them with that listed as their business name on the label?? or something close

My best purchase from Century (although I didn't know it at the time) was a M39 Sako SKY marked for 80 bucks. Best of all I still have it.

I can still see the poor courier guy pull up to the shop and open the door on his van. He would stare at the crates for a moment, take a deep breath and start dragging them out. Just like Christmas for us. :)

I got my SAT barrel M91 from Century. :d

So you're the one! I have heard of this and thought it was a myth!! LOL.

?? Sarcasm?? Alan Lever treated me very well, both over the phone and in person. I loved his old shop with all the ship fittings and furniture. Bought a fair amount of goodies from him, never a problem.

I bought 2 Beretta Model 1934 pistols 380cal for $59. Each . both were solid ,well working pistols. I sold them...aaarrggg!

the wife had a CZ model 45 in 25cal with a 2.5" barrel. it was so small , it would fit in the palm of your hand. very good working pistol.! $75 bucks. I thought that was Expensive LOL

also had 2 Indian 1A1 rifles. $99 bucks each.
My buddys 1A1 was really worn...It would fire full auto at times..LOL no joking !

I personally miss those guys but I'm not so sure about my bank account! Dropped one helluva pile of coin there, but got hold of some really, really nice milsurps. My record haul for one purchase was the variety pack of Mosin-Nagants,7 for 219.00? or something like that. What a deal and there were some beauties in that assortment.

Ugh... The catalog pages are killing me. Especially the Enfields, Mausers and pocket pistols.

Don't we all feel safer now that all those now-prohib pistols and rifles are out of collector's hands and only for sale on the street?!? Such wonderful times we live in.
