I need a lead on a range in the Victoria area. A friend is getting a .500 S&W revolver as his first gun. Yes, he has too much money. Are there any ranges in the Victoria area that he will be able to shoot at?

Indoors or out? Outdoors I shoot mine at the Chemainus range and three of us with 500's have also shot at the Duncan outdoor range. I don't think its something you'd want to shoot indoors except perhaps at the Phoenix Range in Edmonton.

There's no way I'd shoot this indoors without very careful perparation (sound control surfaces in the range and doubled up hearing protection at the very least.)

How much shooting has your friend done?

A good choice if you want to give up handgun shooting in a hurry. This is analogous to buying a F1 for a first car to learn how to drive. Somebody needs to have a good talk with your friend.

This is going to be the first handgun that belongs to him. He is in the Navy and no stranger to firearms.

Must be nice to hold onto a weapon bigger than the deck guns we have... So is now assigned to the deck with his 500 in the event of general quarters??
Maybe let him know there no hiding behind protective metal walls and u don't pull a cord to fire the trigger mechanism..;) Heres hoping he enjoys it and remembers to hold onto it when firing otherwise he will join the list of those who have had an unexpected affair with their weapon, as it slaps him in the head..There is a difference between a loud boom and a Ka-freaking-boom!!!
Cheers
dB:)

I've got to agree. A.500 S&W for your first handgun!! Get real! its a great gun, I've got one but as I've mentioned in the past, "It has the ability to inflict pain, at both ends!!" Even loaded down, for a first handgun? NOT!!
