i need a good handload

46 grains of BL-C(2) with a 150 grain bullet should come close to duplicating 7.62 NATO ballistics. BL-C(2) is a canister grade equivalent of WC 846, which uses the same charge in M80 ball. W748 might come fairly close to this as well.

I suggest working within a +/- 1 grain range of that in 0.5 grain increments and see what shoots the best.

I don't think there's a magic load for all M1A type rifles. You'll have to experiment with different loads in YOUR rifle and see what yields the best results. That's the fun part.

43g of 2206H (or hornady 4895 - same powder) with a 165g Sierra HPBT give me 1/2 inch three shot groups in my rifle. I have seen 42.5 quoted for the same projectile as well. Brass capacity makes a bit of a difference as well.

My plinking load is 42.0 grs of 4064 under 150 gr Hornady FMJ bulk bullets. Shoots as well as I can see open sites and is about as "cheap" as you're going to get these days.

First load I tried (just yesterday), was 40 grains of IMR 4895 with a Hornady 165 SPBT. It works well enough that I might just keep it that way for plinking. I didn't get the chronograph out yet, soon though. Seems like when the charge goes up, the brass takes more of a hit from the "military" chamber. I might get a few more loads out of my brass with light loads. (?)

I'm new to handloading but my first effort was much better than anything I've shot from Federal or Remington. I was all over the target with factory then switched to my 8 handloaded rounds. I put 6 shots into a 2.25" group at 100 meters and I am very rusty. That was with my old B-square mount and Leapers 3-9x32. Yes, I said B-square and then I said Leapers .

With this hand load what sort of primer do you used, I heard that I need to used magnum primers with this powder (BL-C(2) ).
