IMG_1639.jpegI don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Bullets always come out mottled. Either I’m not using enough powder or because it’s Princess Auto Powder coat.
I heated these to about 100F degrees before tumbling.

First thing I would do is go to Prismatic Powder and buy good powder.

Humidity is not your friend.

Make sure you degrease using acetone or similar

Should still be fine to shoot with no leading

I've had decent/pretty good, but never 100% results with Princess Auto black. I heat the bullets on top of the toaster oven until they're 140-150 F, swirl them in a container, and gently roll them out into an old deep fryer basket (to shake the excess powder off), then onto the oven tray. By far the best coverage happens with low outdoor humidity. As mentioned above, they don't lead, at least not for me in the 1700-1800 fps range. One patch and your barrel looks bright.

Get some Eastwood Ford blue or red. When I first started powder coating the Princess Auto red was what most were using. Though it did work once I tried Eastwood I would never use the Princess Auto again.

I found the princess auto colors made a difference, red coated nice, black did not.
In the end... they all shot fine, it was just looks.
