for primer,s i know i need the 209...is there any option for them?
i see a ton of tools for primer inserting and powder measuring, any preference on these?

now on to oiling or buttering:redface: whats goodand not so good?

now that a mess was made:D whats good for the clean up?
thanks to all that are helping this ole coot to learn new tricks:D

Powder is cheaper than pellets and you can shoot more and adjust how much to load in your own rifle for better accuracy and power. Pellets are more convenient for fast field loading. It really depends on your style of shooting and how much you like to fiddle with things.
If you dont shoot it much then get the pellets.

Powder is allot cheaper, you get almost double the amount then you would with pellets. I find it no harder in the field if you load up some speed loaders before hand, and more adjustable. I would find one sabot for all of your shooting (keep it simple smarty ;) )

Hey Fog,A buddy of mine has the same M/L as yours and his likes power belt slugs ahead of 2 triple seven pellets.
If you are using a scope you had better get a little bra for the bottom of your scope as the blowback(from the action) will eat the anodization off the scope in short order.
His shoots pretty good groups but is a pain to prime(you will need a priming tool to place a primer on and a pick to remove it after firing)
PM coming your way.

I use Bore Butter for everything, barrel, breech plug and outer surface.
But for long term storage any gun oil will do ie; Outers Gun oil,Rem. Oil etc.)
To 'clean' the barrel depends on what you shoot, but even though I use Triple 7 pellets(it only requires soap & water to clean),I still like to use "Butch's Bore Shine.
Remigton has just come out with 209 primers designed especially for muzzleloaders.
For sabots,It depends on the application? I presently use Hornady 240gr XTP's in .44cal for my Encore and I'm in the process of working with
Hornady .45cal,300gr FNHP in an orange Knight sabot. So far the groups are under 2" @ 100yds usin 150gr charge or 3 Triple 7 pellets.
Hope this helps ya out,
Happy New Year
