Here's a poser for you.
I'm a proud father of 3 little boys - 4½ yrs, 2½ yrs and 9 months.
However the missus is harassing me about having another one.
Now, like most of us red blooded males the opportunity to spend some "special time" with a lady is mighty enticing.
But I'm no fool.
I love my sons but they are time consuming and demand attention.
They also cost money, although that's not been an issue, at least so far.
Give em a few years though.
So I've been busily trying to avoid the issue as much as possible.
On Saturday on my wasted trip to Sydney the missus gave me an especially hard hammering about it and I got to thinking.
The Aussie Federal Govt gives a $5000 baby bonus for every little one you have.
Sure, you need to spend it on cots and prams and the lot for the first one but by No3 it's new rifle/wide-screen-TV/computer/more-funds-for-project-car territory.
I'm a VW Bus fan and the youngest's bonus helped fund the resto on our '67 Bus.
But it really needs a 2.0l stroker motor as it's our daily driver and is pushing around the 5 of us and all the kids paraphenalia with a 1600cc motor that puts out about 65hp.
So I dreamed up the perfect discouragement.
I turned to her and said:
"You want another baby? Then we buy a stroker motor for the Bus and me a new rifle with the bonus."
She gave me a big smile and said "Fine!"
I wasn't expecting that!
I mean, I'd really love a stroker in the VW and have wanted a Ruger #1a 7x57 for ages but I'd never get out of the house to hunt with it!
So, please, a little advice here, lads.
Which way do I go......any price for a new gun or not?

...if the only time you get to spend "special time" with your lady is when she wants a baby you have bigger problems that deciding what to do with the government cash....if a woman tried to pull that crap on me she'd be living alone really quickly....I'm having a hard time believing this post......wow.

not hard to tell who wears the pants in your house...and it's not you.

I say poke some fun at her and if she takes it seriously, then engine and rifle it is. The prospect of a new rifle is a great reason to have another child. ;)

Oh boy... Hmm... If you guys love kids, and it seems you must with 3 already... I say go for it! The "treats" offered by your wife to entice you are just icing on the cake...

Enjoy!:adult:

Cheers
Jay

I'd say love the three you got and save your $$$ for a gun later. Friendly women scare me!!! They seem to do a turn about after they get what they want. If you don't have time to get out in the bush with 3 kids,4 isn't going to change things. Plus after the third one, everything is trashed and worn out. You will be buying new stuff for #4 and if it is a girl, well only the best and newest will do...get my drift...

PS...Did all that 33 years ago...still got the girl at home...she was the last...and most expensive...ST...

Tell her to be happy with the 3 healthy lads you have now. $5000 may sound like a lot now, but its the next 20 some years your paying for. And if the #4 was a girl, the $5000 will slip thru your hands and into the pink and frilly stuff.;)

I have 2 little girls and my wife wondered if we should try again for a boy. I said no way, with thoughts of 3 teenage girls and their mother in the house fighting over the bathroom.:D

BTW this should be in the Off Topic.

Count your dinning room chairs. Never screw yourself out of a place at the table to eat:p We only had 4 chairs so we stopped at 2 kids.

Grouse Man's got an idea, other than that I'd say NO WAY IN HELL would I trade a new gun for another child. But that's just my opinion. I've been at it (raising kids) for 25 years and had enough.

I hear ya......my sons are 20 and 22........one will have his Welding ticket this fall and the other is starting post secondary this fall.........just a few years to go........2 kids are plenty now days.....I'd definetly stop at three if I'd missed my cue at 2...........4 would be out of the question....

The question is do you want the 4th. the big question is why does your wife want another. 4 kids is not alot by any means. If you can afford another and you want another have another. But maybe an education fund would be a better way of spending the money:)

Well, we had two girls and went for the third and lo and behold it was a boy, er, 26 years ago. Now had he been another girl, well, i see your point about the bathroom fights.
