I need AR purchase help

Not much experience with the AR platform but so far after buying 4 i can say that the DD seem to have an edge... I would go a DD in 16 inch with an extra upper in 10.3 inch, still have dough left for optics on your 3000.00 budget.... JP.

Stag 3G
Colt Expert CRE18
Colt Pro CRP18

As far as a money back guarantee from the retailer - only WalMart does that anymore.

yah im covered on optics, i have a 4x browe and a trijicon rmr that ill put on 45 degrees. haven't made up my mind still going back and forth although i do want to make a decision before end of day friday.

I went with a DDM4V7 Milspec+. I've had it out to the range a couple of times. It handles great with no issues. I have no regrets.

Have the KAC SR-15E3 IWS 16" CARBINE MOD 2 come in yet ? be another good choice for the OP
For the KAC 18" LPR it's a sub MOA rifle which includes 2 stage match trigger and Krieger barrel.

Add in the ambi features, KAC reputation, our backing of the rifles and 2 KAC armorers on staff........ ;)

If your looking for a quick purchase of a reliable AR the Daniel Defense products seem to have an over abundant amount of owners saying nothing but good things about them. Re-sale is an important factor you may want to consider and in that respect the DD products should prove an easy sale for strong value if you decide to move on to a H&K or KAC...
I am by no means an AR expert, but deciding between a DI or Piston rifle would help to narrow the field, best of luck with your choice.

"I would like an AR that i can realistically purchase in the next 30 days, not the magical rifle from camelot imbued with the essence of the polar bear unicorn that comes to Canada in a select batches of 2 rifles every 23 years that have been pre sold 92 years in advance."

loll… Classic

Christensen Arms, CA15, tons of problems, tons!
On all types of mags firing 55grain AE, Problems feeding (rounds catching on feed ramps and jamming), problems firing (light primer strikes), problems ejecting (round stuck in chamber, causing me to mortar the gun to get it out), bolt release snapped off, sheared right where the lower meets the upper into space during a quick burst. Bought at a place with the word "stall" in the name, currently being serviced by them, not expecting it back any time soon (over 2 months there already), hence why I need an AR pronto if I want to compete in 3gun this summer.

What I want to do with an AR, compete in 3 gun, so close up and up to 200 yards.

Don’t be shy… You mean Win-stals ….
$3000 + unit and they don’t provide a simple exchange? make you wait 2 months and counting without your gear with no compensation for your troubles…. not even a mag or something… thats iffy customer service no matter how you sugar coat it…

they gave me a full refund yesterday, concludes that matter, now on to what i'm going to get next.

Glad to hear they fixed you up. Realistically, picking any of the names mentioned here would be a good choice. Pick any of them and finally get out shooting! Sounds like you have waited long enough

Glad to hear about Wanstalls setting you right. I think you'll be happiest with the KAC rifle that Farmboy is mentioning. While a DD would serve you well I'm gathering from your posts that you're looking for something more upscale (and a HK might be outside of your range...unless brought in through IRG...but that'll be a long wait).

Cool - thanks for the additional info.

I've been doing some in-depth research for my next AR purchase and JP Enterprises keeps coming up with their Low Mass Operating System (LMOS), though I have yet to shoot one myself (caveat emptor). CRAFM in Montreal seems to be the only Canadian dealer, but have several on sale - I was in their shop a couple of weeks ago (awesome place), and they were at FRPC for an IPSC Level III event last weekend here in Kingston. Good guys. Their spring kits can lighten an AR trigger (at the expense perhaps of hammer force on harder surplus/milspec primers), but the LMOS system and integrated compensators on their barrels look very interesting for 3-gun.

I saw at least one JP AR on sale for within your budget range, plus saw some uppers if you have a lower already for just over $2k if you already have a lower / another AR that's not in for service. I was talking to Mark from One Shot Tactical this weekend in Kingston, and they split some of their KAC ARs into uppers and lowers, and there was at least one upper available with an 18 inch barrel.

Regards,
Peter

ive hear about JP, but frankly i need a manufacturer that knows what they're doing when it comes to building ARs, I'm done with small boutique shops since my disaster with CA

where can I get those colts? really nice rifles those colts, real nice! that colt pro looks like a dream come true! Also very good price on the cre18 from the colt website, not sure how that translates up here.

that colt pro crp18 has fixed everything that was bothering me about the dd mk12, 1:8 twist and a hand-guard built for off hand shooting not mounting a rocket launcher.

only thing bothering me is who and what are Bold Ideas Texas??? and what are they doing manufacturing colts? are they another little boutique shop? i dunno if i trust these guys to make a rifle, never heard of them. Maybe stag 3gr is a safer choice.

I don't know where you can buy the Colts in Canada. They're made under contract by Bold Ideas. I would have no concerns buying one.

I bought the 3G over the Expert for less $$. The 3G has the better trigger.

The Pro has the better trigger/comp over the Expert but was about $400 more.

Quite a few of the 3G's here locally - everyone is happy with them.

There is (was?) a Stag 3G in the EE a few days ago.

With that in mind, and given your budget, why not just get a KAC SR-15 and be done with it? You literally won't find a higher quality, more reliable AR out there. There is a reason why they cost more and yet still sell like they do...
