I need help identifying this animal

Did I miss in the thread where it mentions what part of the country this picture was taken?

The way I see it, the average height of adult bobcat is 14-15" from ground to shoulder and the males average about 20 to 25 lbs, females average 20 lbs.

That said, those 20 litre buckets in the picture look mighty small compared to the cat.

I am not saying it is a cougar because the tail is not truly visible, but I am saying that it is way too big to be a bobcat.

Robert

Look at the slope of the land and how the cat is closer than the pails in the pic, if the cat was right at the buckets you would see size proportion is correct for bobcat/ lynx.
Definatly not a cougar as previously posted the anatomy is not correctly proportioned i have seen many cougars and they have a different build.

If anyone truly believes thats a cougar, you're nuts. Shape, size, not even close.

Furthermore, if it was a cougar, that would likely be the first pic of one on a trailcam in Ontario.

I would have to say lynx, maybe bobcat. I looked over the pic a few times and what looks to be a tail under close examination appears to be the shadow of the rear legs being offset.
Also from the cougars i have seen body structure doesn't look quite right for a cougar.

Yes, what people think is a long tail, is actually the left leg lifted in the air (you can see the left rear paw), and you can see the slight tail of a lynx above it.

Sure looks like a long tail, smooth butt, wrong colouring I think for inside leg fur for lynx or bobcat. If we were looking at a leg I think we'd see the rounded haunch. Leg fur not bushy enough for lynx or bobcat either. Looks like a nice rack too, I'd say it's a trophy cougalope. :)
