I just cant ID it. It's been a couple weeks and I'm coming up dry.

I have several pics. It is a bolt action 308 win. It says "Made in England" on the left side of the barrel. It has 2 groove rifling, 3 leaf rear sight. My best guess is a Cogswell & Harrison (I used to have one) but I'm not sure. I need to register it. I piddled around with the RCMP database but it really isn't helping me as I dont have the make. I figured you guys would know. I am posting the pics now.....

As far as I know, if it is a Cogswell and Harrison, it will be clearly marked on the barrell. I have a 8mm-06 done by them and its clearly stamped.

Yeah, mine was clearly marked too.......This one has nothing....the serial number matches everything on this gun, even the stock has the serial number on it. The buttplate says nothing, the stock cap says nothing.

Maybe the guy that built it was embarrassed to put his name on it...lol

It shoots fantastic. It would be a great hunting rifle. I just cant figure out what the hell it is

Ah, I see. Well than, goodluck with that my friend.

Randy, won't you have to take it to a verifier? Registering it by computer, they ask for verifier's number and name. If you haven't got that, you don't get any further.

If I had to guess I'd say a 98 conversion marketed under the trade name "Globe".
I recall a lot of those converted militarys being sold in the early 70's out of S.I.R with different trade names and the stock design would put it in that range.

Basically you call in and talk to someone on the phone these days. If he has all the info they need they will give him all the info in regards to verifiers name etc. The person you talk to one the phone is the "verifier".

They then refer you to the on-line registration. I had to get an old Husqvarna registered last fall and it was actually fairly fast and straight forward. But I had all the info on hand! Of course this is the CFC we are talking about so it could have all changed since then...

Oh and sorry can't help you with the gun I haven't a clue:redface:

Well - I dont think its a Globe - that was a Canadian venture. There were lots of small manufacturers - Alpine, Whitworth, etc. The most likely solution is to register it a Mauser, unknown model or sporter, and possibly unknown manufacturer.

The stock design is certainly reminiscent of a Churchill, but I just had a look on the Tradex site and there is a PH with a similar stock design as well, but not with that style of rear sight.

Edited to add . . .
My Whitworth was clearly marked on top of the barrel.

Registered today as a custom mauser 98. Shot it today at Phoenix range and was sub moa at the range with the weaver scope on it. Open sights were right on the money too.....

Dont need it tho so I will probably sell it........

mauser 98

That looks identical to my rifle, I own a mauser 98 sporterized by Churchill gun makers in 30 06. I have it apart now because I am refinishing the stock. I will post some pic and measuements for you to compare to..
