Hi guys i'm fairly new here and was hoping yous could help..?
Ok...i have a 10/22 i picked up cheep ..but i want to do it up..
first i would like to know what i can use to strip the reciver ..i want to remove the black (it dont look like bluing)it looks more like a paint ...
the reason is i'm going to put a stainless GM. barrel on it and i think it would look a lot better ....
can anyone help...Is it paint or what, and how do i get it off???

The 10/22 receiver is made of aluminum & painted black.

Paint stripper can be used to remove the factory finish.

Many 10/22 owners have used progressively finer grades of sandpaper eg:300to 1200 grit to polish the receiver. As the aluminum tends to oxidize a coating of clear lacquer is often sprayed on after the polishing.

Good luck with your 10/22 project, they are fun guns & have been known to become very addictive.:D

I used PolyStripa gel and a wire brush to get the paint off of mine. Works, but takes a while and some elbow grease. A good sandblasting would work quicker.

I never refinished mine - just left the Aluminum in the raw. I think I might give it a shot of matte black GunKote.
