I need help with an unusual scope mount...

I have an ASTRA TS-22 semi .22 target pistol. I want to try a red dot on it. But I seem to have a problem. While it is not equipped with a standard scope mount, it does have a rail - of sorts. The grove that I want to hold the scope mount is semicircular in shape, and it has enough depth to hold a weaver - type mount, but the groove is about 7/32 of an inch below the top, and that is too far from the top to fit a conventional weaver mount. I tried a Barska red dot, which has a "dual size mount to fit 3/8” to 5/8” base, rimfire to Weaver/Picatinny" , but neither would fit. Or rather, either would fit if they extended down far enough.

I don't know if the Europeans use a different style of base, or if the slot is simply cosmetic, but it should work if I can find a mount that will fit. I think....

This is hardly my area of expertise, so I'd appreciate any thoughts from the community.

I had a Beretta 76s a few years ago which looked almost identical to your ASTRA.
Ran into the same problem.
I ended up having a pic/weaver flat bottomed rail milled to fit the top of the guns barrel/rail and had the guns rail drilled for mounting screws.
I no longer have the gun.
 
Thanks for the reply. I'd hate to drill the rail, but that is certainly a possibility. I am hoping to get to the point that I can try a scope without modding the gun.

You should be able to find a millwright/machinist somewhere that fabricate something for you, weather its an adapter for weaver rings or a small piece of picantinny rail.
 
I have one in stock for 1911, it would sit quite high I would think, and you would have to redrill holes in it retails 100.oo
I tried it out on my 1911 9mm for a couple of mags, works fine, used a Leopold pistols scope .
4 point no gunsmith mount.
these use to be common years ago, don't see many these days.
That grove is not a mount, just decoration, but a slot could be milled in it for weaver mount, drill and tap would work, but drilling , you have to make it right, and top has to be proper profile for the mount.
 
Thanks for the response. Given that the top os flat, I suppose I could just have the "cosmetic" groves modified so that a weaver mount would fit. That might be the most cosmetic solution....
 
Nothing is done to the gun , everything goes back to original, remove the right grip, change two pins for the pins that come with the mount that screw in the 2 other holes, hammer pin and mainspring pin. I have tried it on norinco 9mm and 45 and lined up just as good as on Colt
They have been around for years
