sorry about my english first language is french... :D

I would like to see how you guys store your guns. I now have both handgun and longun and need a storage... im planning to buy so many more! All the safe's ive been shopping online seems too pricy!

I could build it maybe but I want it to be conform to law..

Show me your handgun / longun storage !
thanks

Agreed. If you're just starting off with two guns this is the cheapest and easiest route.

If you plan on expanding your collection rapidly then Costco has some safes that go on sale every once in a while for a decent price.

canadian tire. several "stack-on" models. good start. use bolts to bolt to wall studs.

That is how i store my guns so far. I have manage to put 9 long guns and 1 pistol in my Stack-On 8 gun safe. If i want to buy some more long guns i can always put any of my blot action rifle in the closet and leave the bolt in the safe and this will meet the regulation.

En passant ne t'inquiète pas pour l'orthographe ca me semble correct.

I have a 14 gun Stack On cabinet that is pretty much full, a pistol cabinet with room for maybe 6 (2 now but will expand), a 8 gun cabinet that I am turning into an ammo locker, and I am now building a room around it out of 2x6, 3/4" plywood, and a steel door.

The laws only want a storage with lock and not easy access by the other people, that said not even need a profectional gun safe. I use a can-tire safe and is good and ready for so many handguns and I will build a classic wood storage for the shotguns, no rifles at this point.

Here is an idea I am using to store my ammo. Get an old fridge constructed out of metal and install a hasp and put a heavy duty lock on it. Hope it helps.

I only have 2 guns so far (10/22 Ruger and a G17) But like you, I am planning on expanding quickly. I spent all day today looking up designs and thinking of idea's. Once I have AutoCAD installed I’ll draw up some designs.
I plan on building whatever I design out of 5/8 White Melamine. Found a few neat locks at Lee Valley, they should be more then sufficient. I am aiming to hold 6 rifles and 6 handguns, with room for ammo. Since I'll be storing handguns with rifles, I wont be using any glass. I thought about using Lexan (just as hard to break through as wood if not harder) on the front door to show off my collection but then I remembered I'm not made of money. Am I even allowed to have the pistols visible as long as there is no easy access to them?

I'll post some pictures in a few days or so.

How many guns are you looking to store? Rifles? Pistols? Ammo too?
I'm pretty proficient with AutoCAD and could throw together a few idea's if anyone is interested.

Figure out how many and what kind of guns you are gonna buy in say 5 years.
Double that # to get an idea what your safe needs to hold.

Figure out how much your collection will cost in total and ... then a $1000 safe MAY sound a reasonable investment into: 1)safety; 2)legal compliance and 3)theft proof.

I originally planned to buy four (4) handguns. Really. I thought four was all I would want. Now I'm at seventeen. When I outgrew the first safe (I keep ammo in it now), I bought a rifle safe with no shelving inside, then made shelves out of 14 inch board spaced four inches apart, four pieces of 3/8 inch threaded stock, lots of nuts and washers, and foam insulation wrapped around the threaded stock to prevent scratches. I left the wood unfinished in case the varnish or whatever interfered with the guns' finish.

Room for lots more! :dancingbanana:

PS "Long gun" is usually given as two words. I store my "longun" in my pants.

LOL :D

I am actually considering old school lockers..Like these: sorry for the HUGE link its a classified site in Quebec...Its like 50-100$ per unit...or something like that usually...I would need like 3 maybe...And It would give me the same space than the 1250$ safe +tax + shipping ...And I can customize it like I want. And about my collection growth.... It's a race between my bank account and the anti-gun laws!

Here is a simple design i threw together in about 45 min. I plan on building something like this, maybe.
This one holds 4 rifles and have 5 shelves, 6" apart, each shelf can hold either 2 pistols or 1 pistol with mags and accessories. Shelves have a soft felt like surface. I'm sure I can find some material at a hobby store or fabricland.

My other idea was to make a display cabinet for 6-8 rifles, with a glass/plexi glass opening and below, make 2-3 sliding drawers to hold pistols (out of sight). Same style as the shelves. 6" deep, maybe even 4, but a little wider so each drawer can hold up to 4 pistols.

Nice job you done there! You read my mind! I would need that kind of huge closet in some kind of thick metal sheeting of some sort.....interior all in wood + felt material like you said...

I thought about making it out of metal. I work in a machine/welding shop, and I'm a welder. So i could easily throw together a cabinet like that out of angle iron, wrap it in 3/16 or 1/4 sheeting. But it would cost a lot of pretty penny's. Working with wood is easier and I can build that in my basement in less then a day.

But after thinking about it for a while, I decided to hold out on building anything till I get some more guns. All I have is a 10/22 Ruger, and a G17. I hide those easily enough in my house. Once I get an AR-15 or another couple pistols I might build some sort of cabinet / display case.

Heres another one i drew before I decided to not build anything

It's more of a display cabinet.

Each shelf is on a slide. So you can display 1 or 2 pistols, and then slide it out and grab the accessories/ammo from behind.

I really miss using this program. Havn't used it since college. Next project, draw my G17 Glock on inventor. Maybe I can make it work using the animation features.

I have a small electronic safe in a closet with old folded towels and curtains stacked on top and around it. Can't even tell it's there and no one would really bother going through that spot if broken into. That's for my pistols anyway.

Unobtrusive ...

I have the basic 10 x 18 x 21 Stack-On steel cabinet for my handguns, and have asked a woodworker friend to make a nicely-crafted wooden "slipcover" for it ... to disguise it as an IKEA-style sculpture-pedestal or maybe a subwoofer ... we haven't decided yet.

I built a small room out of an unused space under a stairwell, and installed a heavy door and deadbolt. The hinges are exposed,so I had them welded. The room is not large enough to stand in,but it is plenty large enough to store many guns, and the cost was not great.
