I am considering the purchase of either a 223 or a 22-250. I know that eventually a 22-250 will eventually shoot out their barrells but how many rounds will it actually take to do this? I am also new to this site and am lovin it!!!!!!!
 
Get a fast twist .223 and forget about the .22-250. It is hard to say when the barrel will be shot out, much depends on what you feel is accurate. Some guys will be happy to keep a 100 yard group, minute-of-pie-plate. While others will be looking for a new barrel if the group opened up to 1 1/2".
With a fast twist .223 you can shoot out to 1000 yards with heavy bullets. With most .22-250's and their slow twist, 600 yards is about the limit with light bullets.
 
being a shotgun shooter and new to this rifle game what would be considered a fast twist and what manufacturers would i be looking at? any help would be appreciated
 
Savage rifles are available with a 1:9 that will shoot 75 gr bullets well. Tikka has a .223 rifle with a 1:8 that will shoot 80 gr bullets.
If I was to re-barrel my .223 (maybe next year) I would change my 1:9 to a 1:8 or maybe even 1:7 twist.
 
I have (officially) a Savage FVSS in 223. Did not care for the stock so Phil at P&D enterprises swapped a BTV stock from a 22-250. Now its a BTVSS. My first thumhole stock and I do like it. Rifle is very accurate to 300 meters. Our range only has up to 300 m, but others tell me there is no reason it will not shoot alot further. The stock does add a bit to the price.

I agree with everyone here... 223. Savage, Remington, Stevens, Tikka... take you pick. I personally like shooting heavier bullets, but a 1:9 would realistically be ideal for someone that will shoot lots of factory ammo.

Get the gun, start shooting!. If you don't like it, sell it and get something else. Nobody here has only one gun and nobody here can tell me that they have never sold something after trying a friends gun that they liked better...... I think :)
