Imr3031 is a go to powder for me now. From 350gn jacketed to 480gn cast boolits. I was advised by a few here to try Large pistol primers for better consistancy. Next batch will of reloads will be the test for me.
Follow the guidlines for when rifle you are loading for.
I use 405 cast bullets. I have my speeds at about 1400 fps. It reduces recoil to an acceptable level and still gives me a round that should take anything I shot at, within a reasonable distance.
AA2015 has always worked well for me with jacketed bullets in three different 45-70's. Here's a few groups I fired recently from my Marlin GBL. H322 and H4198 has worked well also. The groups were fired on different days and I was messing with my scope, thus POI changes.
I have developed loads for at least 8-10 different Marlins.
The most common high performance powder that worked for me was H4198. HANDS DOWN!
Especially for the 350 grain bullets.
I've had good results in my H&R handi-rifle with the following loads:
-55gr H4198 under 300gr JHP
-36gr H4895 under 500gr cast bullet (wheel weights, no gas check)
