Hi folks,

I'm looking at different finishes for a working rifle. Not that it will be mistreated at all but durability is key.

I plan on putting together a 9.3x62 on a ZG-47 with either a stainless or cromo barrel and iron sights. I would prefer the whole outfit to be black (blued) as opposed to a combination of silver and blue. If I go the cromo barrel route parkerizing may be an option but I understand that it won't adhere to stainless.

I've been looking at different finishes and cerakote from the gunkote family keeps comming up as a good finish. Even Empire Rifles uses this on all their rifles - and they are not cheap! Has anyone had experience with this? Does anyone do this in Canada?

I should also say that I'm not set on this finish. What other options might fit the bill?

This may sound stupid, but I was refinishing a cheap Norinco JW-15 ,anyway after rolling my truck bed with a roll on liner kit I bought from Carquest I brushed the left over on the stock of the rifle. It acually looks pretty good (looks kinda like a synthetic stock) and wears like iron.I guess if you can throw bricks and other equipment in a truck bed with a Herculiner bed it will protect a rifle stock.Great durable finish for a bush gun.Just thought I would mention it.....Good luck

Sorry Beaver, should have read your post closer,as for metal finish I have alway,s had good luck with Brownell,s Oxpho-blue.Get it from Wholesale, and as for cold blue finishes it holds up 10x better than any other, easy to do and if you get a scratch or wear just dab a little more on with a Q-tip and your good to go...Again good luck with your project

Or can try the paint and bake option. Colors vary from grey to black , maybe green and others:)
Levi, do you know of a Canadian retailer of these finishes .I have been looking for them but the U.S is the only place I have found and they won,t ship the spray type finishes to Canada.Like to do a rifle in the stainless look....Thanks

Don't know of the stainless option, but as for the others, someone that lives close to the states may be getting an order from brownells. Might want to make a request on ee , someone local to you may also have some. I'm in NS.

Yea I live about 20min from Port Huron Michigan, maybe I.ll check Cabelas over there.I have got Wolf .22 ammo there(OOP,s did I say that again)

to me again, the best way is to go with arma-coat, Barret in your area is the one to talk with, you have a lot of color to choose from and the paint is extremly durable, the stainless color is too, excellent and nice with black

thank's Striker,
This is 2 more gun finished this weekend,
90% of my customers are from the northen community from the great north, waskaganish, chissassibi, wemindji, kujjuarapik, etc, they have hard condition over there, the gun are usually used for geese or caroboo hunting, only sad that i have not take picture of all the gun i have made...
The semi Stoeger is brand new, aluminium receiver, steel barrel and wood stock, this paint is amazing... the winchester is wood stock too but wood filler have been applied because there is a LOT of dammage on this stock, you can see on the pic...
