I have a Weatherby Vangard 2 in 300 win mag. I just bought it last fall new. I am having issues with hard bolt lift on it occasionally. This happens with Federal Premium ammunition, so I have tried reloading for it. I still get hard bolt lift even at near the minimum powder recommendations from the Nosler reloading book. I have used shot once federal brass and new Hornady brass. I check powder weights on a beam scale and electronic to verify each load. I should note I just started reloading also.
What makes one rifle more susceptible to this condition than others?

Im not sure what causes this (sorry no help) but would be interested why as well. Had this happen with reloaded federal brass as well in my 243 but all other makes have been fine

I had this in my Savage once - the bullets weren't fully seated properly from the factory. Still shot but was just really tight on the action.

The ones I had I had reloaded myself. Loaded to exact same o.a.l and sizing die set the same with Remington, winchester and Hornady brass everything was fine. Had to have been something with federal brass.

Try any other make of ammo or brass before you condemn the rifle. I have had no end of grief with Federal brass, it is very soft and will show pressure signs and flow brass even before SAAMI pressures are reached. Try some Winchester non nickel ammo, I think you'll find your problem goes away.
Make sure you lube your locking lugs as well, in case you didn't already know this.

I have tried Hornady brass and had the same results.

I did not try lubricating the locking lugs. Thank you
