I bought this thinking it was just a regular sporterized VZ 24, but once recieved it I realized it has Nazi proofs and a K98k barrel on it. It is all numbers matching except the bolt shroud and cocking piece and they match each other. The heavily sportered k98k stock it came in doesn't match as well. The numbers have obviously been added to most parts to match. You can see the bolt root has been ground and the serial number stamped, the trigger guard number has been partially ground off and stamped over, and the stamp on the receiver doesn't look original either. The barrel is a Geco unit with waffenamt 26 on it. The bolt has a waffenamt 140 on the underside of the root but no Nazi proof on the rear of the root. Waffenamt 1 on the floorplate. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Could it be a G24.(t) that has been reworked at one time?

Thanks for the info guys. From the little research I've done on the District builds, it seems it is fairly uncommon? What kind of stock do you guys think would be correct to restore it? From what I read most were built in the 41-42 range? It would make sense that an earlier stock would be correct then.

I need to do some more research on this.

Yeah. Lol. I fixed it. I do know that honest, just not paying attention at work. Lol

The vz stock could be correct. There are several documented cases of this.

Ok. So here are a few more pics of some of the markings and the sportered stock. You can see the holes where the sling and takedown disc are as well as some finger grasping grooves on the forend. There is no cleaning rod hole.

I think AR is correct, the VZ 24 stock would be correct. The Germans modified the sling arrangement to a K98k style but left the Czech style sling loops in place, I think.

Which makes this gun impossible to restore. As the correct stock is a german modified vz stock. Try finding one of those. This rifle could be a tough task.

After doing a lot of research on the depot build k98k's, I found quite a bit of info regarding these. It isn't a VZ 24 that has been reworked into a K98k, but a K98k built using armourer's replacement parts and salvaged parts. The receiver is the only VZ part on the rifle and most likely a left over new part or salvaged from a damaged VZ 24. The barrel has a 0,2 mark on the top denoting an armourer's replacement.

I don't know it the stock it came in is original to the K98k, and I don't think it is a modified VZ 24 stock. There is no bolt hole throught the wrist for the rear sling attachment and the finger grooves are in the wrong place and too long. Being a depot build, almost any 42 and older K98k stock could be correct, but it seems a high percentage used Gustloff "C" marked contract stocks.
