I need to know what the standard distance from the rear of the recoil lug to the center of the forward action screw. I have a r700 sa clone action and its not fitting in a aftermarket r700 sa stock. Just trying to figure out where the problem lies.

Thanks

I did find that online, but I found similar ones with different specs, all claiming r700 sa. So I figured I would ask hoping someone might have first hand knowledge.

It can vary a little depending on action truing... I have found many stocks have the recoil lug inletted too far forward. The best way to check is to remove the trigger, install headless screws in the action. Install the bottom metal and tape it in place... Lower the barrelled action with the long headless screws guiding it into the bottom metal... you will soon see if the recoil lug recess needs to be cut back a bit... many stocks do... I glass bed using the same set up for a perfect fit and screws that line up correctly and remove and install smoothly.

I used socket head 700 action screws and turned the head diameter down slightly under 1/4".

So just a bit of more insight. The distance we are talking about is approx .900" on the action, but on the stock is approx .934" . It's not a huge difference, but it's enough that I couldn't get the threads to catch. even if they did, then the action screw would be imparting tension against the stock. Its also a machined chassis style stock, and the company is already sending me a replacement.
