Hi guys. Some background.
I'm a renter. I don't have children yet.

My girl and I rent a 3 bedroom Apt. so that we can each have our own hobby room and quiet space for studying or working from home.

Since we've moved into this place, I haven't unpacked any of my reloading gear, but I really do miss the hobby. Main reason I haven't unpacked is that my hobby room is carpeted and I'm afraid of getting the carpet dirty with case lube, dropped powder and other reloading associated dirt.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has a similar issue and has worked out a solution.

I've been thinking about getting a big rubberized mat from Canadian Tire meant for garage floors. They're pretty big, so I could go halfway up the wall in the corner of the room with one of those mats, which would be awesome.

Priority one is handing this place back over to my landlord (who is excellent) in excellent condition. He treats me well and we have a good relationship. He already knows about the powder and ammo I have here, so no worries about that. I just want everything to remain clean.

You could get these rolls of vinyl flooring from costco.

I was in the same boat once upon a time, and went to a carpet store and bought a large remnant that covered under my bench and a ways beyond. It was great, I'd just pull up the corners every few months and take it outside and shake the hell out of it and flop it back down...........never got the original carpet dirty at all. The worst there is, is the residue from spent primers and the brass from your trimmer. It works it's way right into the weave and never comes out..........believe me I know. This is why a carpet remnant is better cause it grabs this stuff and keeps it from tracking around the house........unless you like having gold glitter interwoven through out every traffic way in your rental..........

Costco has the versa roll mat things too. Probably similar to the CDN tire rolls you're talking about.

I'm not really certain how stable a desk on that would be. Personally I bolt all my benches to the floor and wall to stop any wobble.. You could always bolt it to the wall if you're handy and don't mind filling in some drywall and painting one wall before you leave.

Good chance he'd have to paint the whole room, depending on the color and how old the current paint is. You just can't color match age. Lol

$220!?! Holy crap thats expensive.

Personally, I would just ask my step-dad for a big scrap of carpet, but hes a personal contractor whos main focus is flooring... If you know anyone who is a personal contractor you may be able to get something free from them?

Otherwise, I'd agree with c-fbmi, go to a carpet store and see if they've got any large remnants you can get for cheap. If thats not affordable, a pair of those large black floor mats designed for entrace-ways (3'x4' or so) go for $15-20 usually.

I always avoided carpeting due to the chance of static electricity build up and it setting off the powder. I have no evidence that this would happen... I just don't want to be the first to find out that my feet shuffling across the carpet starts the floor burning. Just a thought.
