I need your informed opinions... 'cause the wallet opens on Saturday !

I've owned several Weatherby Mk V rifles - including the exact same one you are considering. It shot well enough and it looks much better in person than in pictures. Having said that, I find them a bit heavy and pricey. I bought mine at a really big discount, ~40% off, when a shop was closing its doors.

It spat 200gr Nosler Partitions out with considerable authority and was quite effective on moose.

Don't listen to the nay sayers, Weatherby are nice rifles, very capable, fit most folks very nicely, in fact, fit is so good it tends reduce felt recoil, and the .300 Win. is not even close to the .300 Weatherby and the Weatherby is a better round to reload. So if you like the look and fit of the Weatherby, and plan to reload, I say do it!!

What he said. If you want it, go for it.;)

Buy what you like and what fits you best, who cares what others think, it's your rifle and you are the one going to be shooting it and paying for it.
But in my opinion there are better options out the for the 2k mark.

Don't listen to these guys,...if you want a Mark V in 300 Wby,...just get one.

In that price range I'd rather have a Cooper myself, but that's not what you want is it?

get the darn Weatherby already.

I agree with Rembo, but do not believe even for a second that a 300 win mag will do everything that a 300 wby will. Just doesn't happen once you are done on the reloading bench! Enjoy your new gun, whatever it turns out to be!

I am going to thoroughly handle it to see how it fits. I personally think it looks great, but to each their own I guess. I am a real stickler for fit and finish and I will be the judge on how well its made and report back. As for the calibre... I'm all set-up for reloading, and I'm not going to be shooting 500 rounds a year with it anyway.
Keep 'em coming :)

Exactly. Anytime a discussion of higher end guns comes up there are always the resentful people who can't afford finer things or don't understand quality. They will attempt to bring you down to their level by insisting the gun is ugly or their choice will shoot better with the implication that you are foolish to spend that much money. They are best ignored.

Buy it! Weatherby's are awesome. Anyone who thinks a M70 "supergrade" with it's painted on black stock cap and dull finish is nicer than a weatherby is out to lunch. There is nothing wrong with a M70 but the two are not comparable. Yes ammo is pricey and the guns are pricey but you get what you pay for. Tires for a corvette cost mare than tires for a minivan! You get what you pay for.

Nice rifle. Great caliber. If it fits you then buy it. I've shot a couple mark V's and altho they didn't fit me just right were all very nice rifles. And the prettier the wood the weaker it usually is. Straight grain is the strongest. It might cost more to buy and shoot but #### it its only money and you only live once. Bang what makes u happy and #### the rest

Of course that is sometimes the case, but some of us have owned Mark V rifles, and do own several rifles that cost as much or more than a Mark V. Being in that situation myself, I found the fit and finish, as well as accuracy, of my Cooper and Sako rifles to be superior to that of my Mark V rifles.

I love my Weatherby guns, and if what you want is a Weatherby, then get it. There are a lot of other really nice guns in that price range (Kimber, Cooper, Sako to name a few) but they aren't Weatherby and won't "scratch that itch".

Well, after much thought and HANDLING, I am now the proud owner of a new Sako model 85 30-06 with the full Bavarian stock. All I can say is wow!!! Thanks for all the feedback, and yes, I couldn't wait!!
