I need your informed opinions... 'cause the wallet opens on Saturday !

Well, after much thought and HANDLING, I am now the proud owner of a new Sako model 85 30-06

Great choice of rifle & a very practical caliber. There is little that can't be accomplished with a 30-06 and ammo can be found everywhere. Enjoy it. By the way, where in the "Hammer" do you normally shoot?

Of course that is sometimes the case, but some of us have owned Mark V rifles, and do own several rifles that cost as much or more than a Mark V. Being in that situation myself, I found the fit and finish, as well as accuracy, of my Cooper and Sako rifles to be superior to that of my Mark V rifles.
I've owned Sako and Cooper as well and wouldn't argue the point on fit and finish. However, Sako doesn't make a .300 Weatherby. While Cooper does offer the Model 56 in that chambering it's a relatively recent introduction. Prophet River isn't even showing the 56 in inventory so the OP would have to wait until it got here and Cooper custom orders can take time.

My comments were directed at the individuals who would piss over a higher-end rifle and then suggest a Remington 700, Winchester or TC Icon.

In the end, I decided to go for a more versatile, all-around calibre.

Good choice with the Sako. the .30-06 will do anything that can be done with a .30 calibre bullet.

Weatherbys are quality rifles, but I absolutely cannot stand their styling.

That full stock Sako is a very nice rifle - good choice. Let us know how it shoots and congrats on your new rifle.

Well, after much thought and HANDLING, I am now the proud owner of a new Sako model 85 30-06 with the full Bavarian stock. All I can say is wow!!! Thanks for all the feedback, and yes, I couldn't wait!!

Nice choice!!!

I freaking love the Sako FS rifles. I'd have one if I didn't spend all of my money on black rifles.

Yes, and even being a Sako fan, I won't go that far on them anymore. Used maybe, not new...

I shopped around, and saved a few hundred dollars on my last Sako, by purchasing it from a forum sponsor. A couple of friends purchased their Sako rifles from the same dealer, and also saved considerable cash.

Yes, a stiff price, but a hard to find version, and I just had to have it. As another nutter mentioned, life is too short, so what the hell, its only money. In the end, whether or not I spent $100-200 more isn't going to concern me.
Just an FYI, the 270 and 30-06 Weatherby were gone when I inquired, hence the reason I jumped on the Sako. It seems the best rifles go quickly irregardless of price.
I will be taking her to the 50 and 100 metre range, along with my Brno 12ga/30-06 combo gun, this Sunday. Neither are scoped, so I'll see what I can do with the good old fashioned iron sights.

Yeah get a TC Icon and save 1k, that thing is so stupid looking it's like birth control at the range. All the hotties are going to be hanging out with the Thompson guys, leaving you alone to ponder why you spent so much money on a gun that looks like it has down syndrome:

Maybe he doesn't need to buy an icon to attract hotties. What is it with you and the down syndrome posts? Maybe some people buy rifles to shoot, not to look at.

nice rifle you got something you can own the rest of your life. i own a cz full stock and love it and my tikka t3 does the job i plan to one day when i can aford it to buy a nice sako or blaser
