I need your opinion . 300 Winchester mag

It’s an old outdated belted magnum that is overpowered for most NA game.
It is widely popular and every major manufacturer makes firearms ammo and reload components to optimize the round.
I can’t seem to to justify selling mine and it is the benchmark of maximum power, versatility with acceptable recoil that all other modern magnums are compared to.

1. Kicks too much for 90% of shooters to learn to use it well.

2. A product of USA marketing - does nothing that the older 308 Norma Magnum won't do.

3. Pretty much needs 24" or even 26" barrel - else is a "loud" 30-06.

A fair amount of kick. Put a limbsaver and a scope with good eye relief and shoot lights out.
A common cartridge to find ammo. Try finding ammo in the prc. Good luck
300 to 350 fps faster than the 30-06 shooting 180 grain loads
In most rifles very accurate.
That said I shoot the 300WSM. It is a bit slower than the 300 mag but I will never sell it.

Lots of recoil, more than the weekend warrior will likely want to spend the day at the range with. Kills stuff really dead. Ammo is common and available damn near everywhere. shoots flat. I dont hate it, but I have already played the recoil game when I was younger, not my thing anymore.

1- It kicks too much for a casual hunter/shooter to build consistency and may, in fact, ruin the existing consistency through sheer recoil (muzzle brakes and Limbsavers can help here big time);
2- Most game won't notice a difference between a modern .30-06 and a factory-loaded .300 Win Mag in similar rifles (thinking both having 24" barrels) as I've gotten 180's moving over 2850 in modern guns (that said, a hot .300 WM load is absolutely cooking);
3- If you are an accomplished shooter and have built up a recoil tolerance, it's an excellent all-around hunting cartridge with the proper bullets with devastating effect on a well-hit target (don't disregard the 200 grain bullets - they are awesome on tough game and can still be driven pretty fast).
