I bought a 760 in 30/06 off of another CGN member. It needed a mag and a fore stock to bring it up to snuff (the seller made me quite aware of this). When it arrived in the mail I went to my parts bin and dug out the fore stock and mag and assembled the rifle. I then bore sighted it and fired three shots with it. It worked great, BUT, along came my youngest daughter and wanted to try it out. She let fly with it and instantly laid claim on it. Now I am out of a rifle. Dad has a pulsating SUCKER sign on his fore head.
Oh well, being able to help keep one more youngster interested in the shooting and hunting sport makes it well worth it.
How many other dads have had the same experience? (feels kinda good)

haha, i had the same thing happen, not once, but twice, first one, i bought a ruger 10/22 carbine, so naturally i slapped it into an ATI stock, threw the pistol grip on the front and added a scope, , see i thought i made myself a neat little plinker after all, WRONG!, my 10 year old daughter went through about 200 rounds and then gave me the little girl eyes acting all cute and said, this ones mine daddy, ugh, yep, it sure is..lol

number 2, i got a litte HR 20 ga, single shot, for grouse or whatever, mainly rock pit and zombie targets..lol, in comes my very soon to be 13 year old daughter who to this day has been scared of any type of firearm, she wanted to try, deep down i heard the warning bells going off, but damnit, i handed it over, and after 3 shots, yep, you got it, lost that one two..
deep down i`m one proud poppa!, but up front and on the surface, well, damnit, i want my toys back!!!!..haha

If you went to your parts bin and pulled out stocks for "her" rifle, i am sure you are like so many of us here. Down to your last 20 rifles, and a gun room not a safe. Which one to use...einee, meenie, minee, mo.....

Somehow i think her taking the rifle makes you smile, greatly out of proportion for what you are out...cash wise.

Busted-- nowarningshot hit the nail on the head. I would let it happen again. There are a couple more kids so I am sure it will happen again. Happy to let it happen.
(Don't tell the kids or I won't have any rifles left)

I dont have any kids, and yet I still lost a toy! I got my hands on a beautiful, like new Cooey 64. I wanted to introduce my 12 year old nephew to the sport so I took him out and let him shoot it at a spinning target. He has now laid claim to the gun! The only saving grace is that he is left handed, so operating the Cooey's action isnt exactly perfect for him. If I'm able to find him a left handed .22, I may be able to get my toy back. I just have to convince him that a bolt action rifle is way cooler then a semi-auto!

In 1994 (the year my first son was born) I won a M70 Featherwieght and the first deer I shot with it I won second place in a big buck contest, 240 pounds dressed. The antlers won me first place at the outdoor sports show, 160 3/8" B&C. Fast forward a few years, I opened my gun case and told him to pick a rifle to take hunting, with the promise if he shot a buck the rifle was his. He grabbed the M70 and shot a nice 7 pointer that very afternoon.

I feel your pain LOL !! It happened years ago to this dad and many years later to this granddad.... history repeats itself...

Oh Thanks kevan!!! I forgot about grand kids (I have three of the little rats)
Damn, I better stock up on rifles.
I wonder what the wife will say about using that for an excuse to buy??

Yes, I know the feeling....all too well, lol. :)

It's my grandchildren that are the ones who are laying claims now. My 17 YO grandson has a 30-06 that was mine. Good for him!

The legacy goes on, and on.

Congrats to all those parents and grandparents who are introducing shooting sports to the younger generations.

Regards, Dave.

I can hardly wait! My son is 5 now. I so much hope he will like the shooting/hunting like I did!

If he doesn't, oh well! But if he does! Wohoo! I will lavish all he wants to learn and try!

Great inspiration on this thread!!!

My daughter has claimed my pre-64 Winchester 70 featherweight in 270 Win. She has good taste, but it'll be a couple more years before she can shoot it. She's good with the 22lr though.

My oldest daughter claimed my 7mm/08 , a Parker and a Ruger 10/22 . My youngest daughter claimed my Brno Model 4 , a Mossberg 20 gauge and a minty husky M-38 in 6.5X55 . I'm a happy man . I'm restocking for future grand-children......... and for me........I have needs too.

My son is shooting my Ruger Compact. 260. I told him he could shoot it until he could afford to buy his own some day. For now, it's his. If he can prove to me that he can take care of it, I'll probably end up giving it to him.
