thats kinda what was running through my mind

I believe the blue box stuff is Czech, and IIRC, corrosive.

what i was wondering was if they were made in 82...why would the Czech's been making 308win in an east bloc country back then

I had some in boxes like that, but the markings on the cartridges were different. I believe the markings indicated manufacture by Sellier and Bellot of Czechoslovakia (if my memory doesn't fail me). I was told they were corrosive primed.

yes, the czech is corrosive. Czechs sold to anybody. They seemed to warehouse it as well and recently surplused it. It may have been strategic supply given their location.

I imagine selling the 7.62 NATO version of the UK 59 abroad gave them reason to make it, also. Helps maximize foreign exchange received from capitalist running dogs.

Besides the red primer sealed stuff you have, there was also some with a completely black primer from Czechoslovakia, also corrosive.

IIRC, it was Century Arms Int that brought in a crapload of it in the early 90's.
At the time, it was $100 per 1000, and I bought 5000. Now that I'm close to out, and its five times the cost now, I wish I bought a LOT more.

7.62x51

The Czechs supplied lots of guns to the Israelis so why not ammo.
The IDF converted many Mausers to 7.62 because they were using the FN -FALs. This could have been left over stock after the IDF went over to 5.56.

okay, thanks guys...I was going to run the surplus through my 1919...but as most of you know cleaning that thing after corrosive ammo will be a ##### and a half..

I pre paid for the next 5000 rounds of it no knowing...so i will probably get rid of it or use it for the M14's. I think I will stick with the white box Federal, I will pull one but i think its Boxer primed

X2

I remember seeing some sold here and there for about $300 per case not that long ago. Of course, I only had an Enfield which I barely shoot, and my .22 mag so no reason to buy .308 ball.

I kick myself now, I could have bought that stuff and stockpiled it for the future, or at least resold some for the original purchase price! :(

Even the cheap remington whitebox stuff sells at Wal-Mart for over a buck a round now!

This is a good incentive to get into reloading. Get some good quality MILSPEC boxer primed brass (the stuff with the NATO cross on the head-various US/DA/IVI brass can still be had),some Hornady 150gr FMJ,and some IMR4895/H4895/W748/BLC2 and have at it. You will recoup your investment in loading tools fairly quickly and you will enjoy shooting some acceptably accurate ammo.

I hope you plan on sharing. :D

I picked up 1500 rounds of that odd labeled 7.61X51 ammo myself about 4 months ago. Corrosive for sure. Berdan primed. I learned the hard way on the corrosive issue. I have two M14's. One of them will only ignite this ammo about 40% of the time (but fires anything else I put in it: handloads, commercial loads, and SA surplus) and the other one will fire it 100% of the time, but I get a split second pause between pin strike and ignition on the occasional round. It's weird.

Soooooooooo where did you acquire said ammo, It is extremely dangerous to 'mix and match' 762 - 308 winnie, we will split the shipping and in the interest of public safety I will dispose of it for you;)
