I posted in Optics but I will ask here too about 56mm scopes.

How tall would my rings need to be to clear a 56mm scope on my 5R? I can get .875, 1.0 or 1.2. I don't have anything to measure as I have no rail or rings yet.

Each model scope will be different because lengh plays a role with a tapered mount. Mount taper angle also changes things. Either the scope mfg. or the mount/ring mfg. should be able to tell you which will be the best fit and what mount taper the scope was designed for. 20 MOA is usually enough, but some scopes are designed for 45 MOA. Using the later may be required if you want to use all of the available elevation travel.

Buy your rail then take some measurements. You havent provided nearly enough info for anyone to answer. I asked Rick at ATRS a similar question and he told me they usually use 1" or taller rings on builds with 56mm objective scopes. Komboyatch makes very good and important points too. In my case I got away with .885" NF low rings and a 56mm obj. because my EGW rail is unusually tall. Ive got almost 1/4" between the bell and barrel even with the sundshade. Once you get your rail you can take some measurements and find what will work for your rifle. My geuss is 1" or taller with most rails other than EGW.

I am using a Ken Farrell 20moa rail and TPS low rings and I have 1/4" clearance on my NXS 5.5-22x56, If I went with lower rings I might start having contact with the ocular bell and bolt handle.
