I put an ad on kijiji looking for a place to hunt coyotes. how do i answer this reply

Also be aware that journalists don't always have last say in how a story is written. Get the wrong newspaper and no matter how well intentioned the journalist is, they'll get told to re-write their piece until it's controversial enough to stir up the readers.
Very good point, there's where remaining anonymous could be a plus for you if you decide to go ahead with the interview

So as title says, I tossed an ad on kijijiasking ifanyone was having problems with coyotes and other predators on there land. Figured maybe some farmer might want to let me shoot some coyotes or wolves on there land. I didn't offer to do it for money and i didn't offer money to hunt on the land. I was very limited on details as I figured I would offer that info in email to who ever replied. Anyway, here is a response I got tonight.

Hello,

My name is Michelle ######x and I'm a freelance journalist currently doing some work for the Whitecourt Press. I'm interested in learning more about your services. Is there a number where you could be reached at. Thanks, Michelle

What should I do here.

"Hello Michelle. Where is your land? What sort of nuisance animals are there and what problems are you having with them? "

Judging the book by the cover , go talk to them reporters . You are looking for a place to hunt not a piece to hunt . Talking or taking her to hunt can not change your views and as we all are , proud hunters and proud of our canadian heritage , then nothing can be scared . Yes you hunt , kill the animal for food , for survivability , for predator control , so does the rest of the world . You just process it by your hands - Biggs

Head lines:
"the victim found in the motel with his organs harvested had answered an add for a interview "
Don't do it !
Just kidding Lol !
But seriously I wouldn't call back no way.

Journalists, if I can use that term loosely, are there to sell news stories. Telling them about how culling coyotes is useful for farmers isn't going to generate news stories. Them reporting about how you go out and kill small furry animals in the guise of helping farmers will sell lots of newspapers.....high risk, high gain.

Lay your cards on the table and bring along a couple of farmers. If she still wants to write that story, maybe, just maybe she wants to provide balanced reporting. Nothing venture, nothing gained. Good luck.

Do not reply you will have a s**t mess like some of them are getting with the reporters and antis. If you feel you need to reply ask her were her acreage is and have her send you written permission to hunt. You will get nether................Then let her fade from memory!

A reporter also likes it when someone else does all the work. Why not provide all the information in the slant you want it? Set up your interview, giving only the answers you are prepared to give. Then give numbers to people who support your point of view for more information. Provide a nice handy fact sheet with the facts you support. This is how PR works.

Many news stories are written when a PR flack sends out a nice info package that contains all the work that needs to be done.

:D:agree:

Does she work for a mainstream paper/newscast? Who knows, maybe the law has "somehow" been broken - advertising on a public forum to kill coyotes??? - could be like posting a baby for sale on ebay (for the antis or any public broadcaster with a policital slant)....let here fade from memory!

Your a big boy now and should be able to handle one reporter /journalist if you are comfortable with it. If you are, answer her response in the manner "Tooner" suggested " Hi ! Michelle , Where is and how much land do you have and what type of animal control issues are you experiencing?

If your single and confident in your abilities, polish up old "Percy" and ask her out for diner. Take away some of her control and, put her on neutral ground.

If you do not want the hassle and or are not confident in dealing with the situation, just ignore the response as she is just fishing seeing what happens in answering your add anyways These folks are always looking for leads and topics for stories, thats how they make there living.

Have a meeting at a coffee shop, neutral ground. Interview HER, then go by that.

Last spring our shop ran a coyote contest . Made national news. I did 3 interviews with the CBC and approx. 5 different newspapers. Another CGN member and I took out a NYC reporter on a coyote hunt. My partner shot a coyote 15 mins into the hunt. We then spent over an hour doing a photo shoot in the back field after.

Stick to the facts, be yourself and be honest. Never hide or be ashamed to let people know that you are a hunter. The more people are exposed to hunting, shooting or guns in general, the more accepting our sport will become. (Remember the old days when you strapped a deer to the hood of your car and got a thumbs up at every stop light? It wouldn't happen today because we gave in to the anti's and buried our heads in the sand when they started to object to our sport.) I don't believe in hiding in the shadows or cower when I'm asked if I hunt. I'm proud of what I do and will help anyone who wants to learn about our sport.

Good luck,

-Jason

Unless you know, or know of her well, I'd say no and move on - too risky. Some would fancy that they're clever enough to talk her into a positive article, but reporters want provocative articles and will pick and choose what they say while staying on the edge of "truth".

This...

Unless you are savvy in handling the media the community has zip to gain.... glad you posted here bud

If you do the interview and I don't see much harm in it, keep your answers as specific as possible so she can't take it and put her spin on it. This is an excepted activity for a reason as there are benifits to this type of hunt. I know a ton of responses on her have been to not do it but I think that we need to take advantage of opurtunitys to shine the light on what we do, you might be the reason a few others get interested in the sport. If we are afraid to talk about what we do when given a chance to speak, then we just seem like creepy people that like to run around and shoot things, this is why so many people are against use because they just don't understand, if they did understand maybe they to would back the sport.

"Hi Michelle. My appologies, as I am not interested in being an ambassador for the hunting community. Thank you and all the best....." (yahda yayda yahda, the thing, the thing, the thing).

Cheer, Hakx

That's it people. Keep running from the media. The more we do this, the less educated others become. I can't believe that most of you actually turn tail and run from a reporter. No wonder our sport is going down the s**tter.... Amazing how many of you "advocates" for the sport only want to preach to the choir....

Sheeple.... grow a set and take a stand.... sheeesh.

One has to know ones own limitations.
For instance I would not be a good ambassador.
I am too easily inflamed, use bad language, and have no patience to suffer fools.
My wife, on the other hand, is a good people person...
