I refinished my SVT ... then took it to the dark side.

Got one and the stock had his original shellac sanded off so I decided to apply a new one dark cherry similar to what we found on most sks

As seen above, a re-shellac is doable if you like the original look. I guess the hardcore collector would prefer the peeling shellac and scratches? It's not like armacoating a STG44 here.

Then things went in a different direction...

Nice write up! Gorgeous how that oil just brings out the wood grain. I have a couple of Mosin stocks that are getting the same treatment! The only thing I do a little different is use antique furniture stripper to leech some of the deep stains and I find if it soaks for no longer than 12 hours the grain does not raise and give you the 'fur'.

How does the gun shoot? My 'shooter' has an AVT barrel, stock and the four port brake which I find outstanding! Seeing yours lighter with the oil makes me want to do mine now! Thanks for sharing!

Anybody know what kind of finish would resist discolouring when hot water gets on it? My SVT sees a lot of water as I'm a cheap bastard who buys corrosive surplus.

Make sure you clean very well especially gas system, i myself don't run corrosive on my semi autos but i am ocd lol!

ammonia/windex hot water to disolve salts prb best bet
