In a rare moment, I just looked across the gun counter at Cabelas in Ottawa yesterday and there they were on a shelf: three boxes of 3" .410 shells, the first I've seen in about a decade I think. The bad news is that they were bismuth shot, priced at $80 a box. Believe me, I left them there.

If you're jumping ponds and walking creeks for wood ducks and puddle ducks the 410 is more than enough and easy to carry
I didn't ask but they looked like good old fashioned 20 round boxes. I hope I won't hear I passed on the country's best deal on bismuth .410 now.

Well I guess at bottom I'm what you could call a practical shooter and regard that gauge as effectively useless. I might have bought some for a friend but at the price I'm not that good a friend. I posted the info here for anyone interested.

That's crazy. My 410 is a Stoeger Uplander sxs, choked full and full. I use it for grouse swatting. Plain old 2.5 or 3" 7.5 or 8's. I always thought even that was pricey. Wonder what that stuff goes for, unobtainium of course, probably $30+ /25.
I actually shot my first gamebirds with a 410, but I no longer hunt wirh a 410. I do however, enjoy shooting skeet with the 410, but I load my own. The big issue is going to be having to replace my AA hulls in a couple of years.
