indoors, that gun is like sticking your head in the dryer whit a stick of tnt

my head was hurting for one hour.....
cant wait to shoot it again :D
 
The couple of times I've been lucky enough to have one loaned to me at the range, I've been surprised at how comfortable it was to shoot. Like any revolver tho, it can be handloaded to whatever level you want.
 
A fine gentleman let me shoot his at a range that I visit on the Island with a round in each chamber. I paid him for each round as he shouldn't have to support my habit. I can't remember how much each round was, recall it being expensive but well worth it.:eek:

A buddy of mine picked one up at a gun show in Duncan a few years ago and invited me out a few days later to 'try' it with him. Long story short, after seeing the accuracy I got with it, even though the loads we were using were on the moderate side, I had to have one. A couple of weeks later I picked one up at Island Outfitters in Victoria. It is an awesome chunk of handgun and has the ability to inflict pain at both ends. Even with the Hogue grips it came with, with the hot 440gr cast loads and the 500gr Hornady bullets, it was painful. A modified set of Jordon Trooper stocks made by Herritts made it 'bareable'.

He's more of a collector then shooter.

Gotta have the biggest one out there. Got it for his 65th birthday.

He's getting set up for Silverdale, east of Hamilton (ON).

P.S. Ellwood Epps had the cheapest price on factory ammo thatI came across.

You gotta' get him to shoot it though. It sure knocks the cobwebs loose. I 'tried' collecting a number of years ago, Colt New Service Revolvers, but it's not for me. I got to five and then shed them. Now, if I don't shoot it, it's history.
I 'roll' all my own, but anyway, you gotta' get Dad to roar a few through it.
 
The 500 is a nice pistol (and quite accurate to boot)

I wouldn't mind a 5" 460S&W

It would be nice to have to option of shooting the "milder" loads (who would have thought you could use 454 casull and "milder" in the same sentence ;))
 
My brother and I just shot two rounds each yesterday. They sure do live up to the sentiment in my sig line.

Much like the .460 the 500 doesn't smack quite as hard as a 454 Casull. Although the only two rounds of Casull I've been lucky enough to try were reloads and I have no idea the energy level the guy loaded them to or the burn rate of the powder compared to stock. I do know that they pretty much felt like I held my hand out and someone just swung a baseball bat at the open palm. By comparison the .460 and .500 are more like you're holding a 2x4 and drive it end on against a rock or something else you're trying to move. A definite blow to the hand but not the short and sharp pain of the Casull.

I do know that we both suddenly developed a craving for rare red meat for dinner....
 
I've been shooting both a 460 and 500 for a couple of years now. They are a lot of fun the 500 whacks the shooter a lot harder then the 460. The 454 Casull and the 480 Ruger don't even come close. I have all 4 and have shot them with factory ammo [to get the cases] and reloads.

Ah... so the two rounds of 454 Casull I shot were heavy loads done by the guy that reloaded them. Thanks.
