Well I decided to go to the range today to shoot my ruger 10/22 target. I was trying to read the wind for a good 50 yards target with some lapua center-x and was doing a fine job (.500" 10 shot group) when a friend of mine got there with his rem 700 tactical in .308 with some reactive targets (12" aluminium serving plates, shaving cream cans and light bulbs to shoot at 200 yards, the longest we can shoot at that range)
He said to other shooters he didn't want anybody shooting at his targets but told me it didn't apply to me as I was shooting a .22. Everybody laughed but the RO. he told my friend he might want to be careful cause I am a pretty competent shooter. My friend said that he knew I was a great shooter, he had seen me shoot my rem 700 SPS in .308 at that range and shoot inside an inch with my reloads but with a .22 I might as well forget it
So the guys there dared me to try and shoot his targets and nobody but the RO tought I could do it. I got out a couple boxes of american eagle ammo ( I wasn't about to waste my precious lapua and my ruger just love this ammo but shoots it 1 1/2 in higher at 50 yards so I tought it wouldn't hurt) I started shootin at a balloon and blew it after 5 shots. Since I had my range I proceeded to shoot a shaving cream can with 2 shots the light bulb with 3 and I put a whole mag in the plate.
So if anybody tell you a .22 is not a long range calibre, I can tell you that if you know your gun and ammo anything is possible
