If you are considering competing with a 1911....Classic IPSC, etc.......look at an STI Spartan, or better yet, an STI Trojan. 9mm, or 40 (I shoot 40 Minor in Classic).
The Shadow is about the best production gun under 1K, in my opinion.
Glocks are fun to take to the range...show to new shooters, etc........aside from that, they sit in my safe........I appreciate them, like them for what they are, just don't compete with them (competition shooting is 99% of my shooting).

You should spend the money on a new safe first. Clearly it is too small if only 1 pistol fits in it!!

I have a Glock 22, a CZ Shadow and a nork 1911. If you want a 1911, buy a nicer one than me. I prefer the first two pistols by a bunch. The shadow is the easiest to put 3 mags into a ragged hole, the Glock is slightly behind it.
I almost forgot, I also have a Dan Wesson Model 15 with the 6" and 8" barrels. Buy one of those instead, they are fun and accurate

Before you spend money on a gun, go out and buy a really good cleaning kit - you can get them at gun shops (No really, they are there, complete kits JUST for CLEANING). You've never really needed one with your Glock, but now you'll need to be pretty OCD about cleaning, and greasing and oiling. Also, make sure you buy a bunch of extra mags - I know it's only a couple of rounds difference, but you'll feel like you're changing mags every 2 seconds with a 1911. Oh yes, and then there's going to be that time when you pull the trigger and you hear the loudest sound in the world - click. The first time it happens you'll get all confused, it'll be less confusing if you prepare yourself in advance, because it WILL happen, then you'll get to take your gun apart on a make shift table at the range, trying to figure what the hell happened. Odds are you'll never figure it out, but you'll get desperate trying.

Well, better late then never... Why did you buy a Glock anyhow???
It was my first firearm purchase, and I love the way they look. The price was right too.

How many folks do you know who've gone from a Glock to a 1911? Most folks go from maintenance intensive to less maintenance intensive, not vice versa. I met one at the range once, I had to .show him how to clean the firing pin and channel, it was ugly in there.
I've fired a 1911 in the past. I find that it fits my hand better than the Glock. I also like the fact that there is an availability of aftermarket grip panels for 1911 and CZs vice the Gen 3 Glock, which is one size fits some.
