you definitely need one
nowadays i think it's the cheapest centerfire rifle to shoot (both in terms of the price of the rifle and the price of milsurp ammo)
I got my 1954 Tula from Frontier, it took almost a year but it was well worth the wait. Unrefurbed, in pristine condition. I notice now that they have the "black bolt" refurbed SKS, very similar to the ones that Lever Arms are selling. I bought a 1950 laminated stock Tula from Lever, it's a nice rifle except for the crummy black coating on all the metal. I stripped and polished the bolt and carrier so it looks better now. The lammy stock is very puuuurty
For a cheap plinker with some class, you can't beat the SKS. They are dirt cheap, as is the (milsurp) ammo, reasonably accurate, and you can use it for deer/varmint hunting if you use soft point rounds. Some of the fellows at my range use their SKS's for just that purpose. For the price of a "tacticool" Black rifle, you could buy half a dozen SKS's and tons of ammo, and not worry if you drop it in the mud. (no offense meant to anyone)
