Ok first let me say I've never seen a Wolverine myself in person, the only people I know that have were my grandmother and grandfather.

Anyways he disappeared into the thick underbrush pretty fast and if there's one thing I heard it's never corner a Wolverine. :D

The animal was a fairly good size with dark brown hair and about the size of a medium dog I guess. The thing that stood out was the white hair. At first I thought it was a large skunk but the hair didn't seem right. The white hair formed a "V" shape with the point of the "V" being towards the tip of the tail and the white hair was slightly longer than the brown.

Wish he had been out in the open long enough to get a picture.

Did it look like this?

Yep, you saw a wolverine. I have seen the odd one in the bush and they are like you describe. The one you saw was pretty big, by the sound of it, and they do get much browner looking as they get older.
Here is one from the NWT that is rated extra large.

Thank you sir! That rug looks exactly like what I seen except the size, that this is massive!

I thought you might have seen one of these:

Smart Ass :p

Drache You are 1 in 100000.
Meaning only 1 of 100000 Canadians have ever seen a wolverine. I've seen 2 (Both stuffed). Both trapped as well.

I think it's funny that I actually had the thought to chase it down to get a closer/better look at the thing :D

If you have done some silly things in your life, this would be right up there......
And don't let the H4831 pull your leg. I have seen that rug he has and it is a midget grizzlie. :p
That is a great hide he has there.

Well - Having had the good fortune (?) to encounter several live Wolverines, I dont think I'd make an effort to chase one - they aint exactly shy! In one case, I encountered one resting in a tree above a game trail. After hearing the growling, and seeing the bloodshot eyes and oversize paws/claws I made the executive decision to traverse around it, by several hundred yards. (Did not have a firearm at the time - would have detoured even if I did!)

Very nice Bruce. I got a quick look at one years ago NW from Wells when I was in Scouts. I don't recall it being anywhere near the size that one appears to be.
