I think the price of M1 Garands is about to drop.

A Garand although a "military grade rifle" is really not sought by the younger(stupid)badass shooters who prefer black rifles with banana mags. Honestly, who ever sees a young kid all kitted out in tactical stuff blastin away with a Garand? Banning the importation of Garands is a stupid decision because it only effects seasoned shooters that enjoy the notoriety of such a firearm;a person normally well established in habits as an avid shooter. Such an idiotic decision once again, will do little to keep the public safe and piss off voters like you here.

I read this article today where Obama is now blocking the importation of M1 Garands and M1 30 carbine back into the USA. This will surely translate to a reduced market for these rifles and allow more of these rifles to find their way into Canada at a lower price.

Maybe we will see Garands for $299 again soon.

I suspect we will begin to see them for sale at the usual Canadian milsurp dealers soon enough.

I think you may be right.
If you have one now, you should sell it to me for $500, before it drops in value any further.

Fred Garvins comment:

”Guess what Mr. President! Those Garands and Carbines that have been sitting in Korea for the past 60 years will be just fine sitting there for another 60. But they’re coming back whether you like it or not. If not me, my kids or [their] kids kids will enjoy them unless you can convince the South Koreans to destroy them. Probably not going to happen because their citizens may actually understand what it means [to utter the words] “being necessary to the security of a Free State.”

John at marstar and I talked about those 8000 m14's a few years ago.
With the price of a complete less receiver USGI M14 parts kit these days (CMP, treeline ect) I would think it would be huge win win for a dealer to get those suckers into canada for parts only

Until they hit the grownup years and realize that the Garand can hold and fire 8 rounds, not 5.

I take exception to that. My first gun was an M1 Garand, which my dad bought for me when I was 15 (I'm 21 now). The reason you don't see them in the hands of the younger generation of shooters is simply a matter of cost. The rifle, and its ammo, are very expensive. Something like an SKS is cheap to shoot and cheap to customize. If there was a source of cheap rifles, and reasonably priced ammo (not necessarily even cheap), younger shooters would enjoy them just as much as older ones. The M1 was in Call of Duty too you know. ;)

It's not so much a matter of cost, so much as availability. I would have bought one much sooner if I could have found one locally. Hell, I had never even seen one before in person until I unwrapped a box from a fellow CGNer.

Anything that uses AR mags can hold 10 or more rounds these days. :)

We're talking 8 rounds of 3006 here! Not poodle shooter .223 or the mild 7.62x39. Putting 10 rounds of .223 downrange is fun and all but putting 8 rounds of 3006 downrange is a whole different thing. I might take my Garand out hunting this year and have a little fun. Should be a hit with the CO to if he runs into me this year.

Have fun explaining the 8 shot enbloc to them. I use my Garand for hunting quite often.

I have owned 5 shot clips for the Garand. Nicely made from 8 round clips. I'll never understand how the price got to where it is particularly on rifles that are well worn.

I own two garands ... one I like how she is ... the other I was going to re-do completely and have had both for some yrs ... I gotta say I shake my head at the price of garands I see today ... ridiculous how high the price has gone up!

"...Obama is now blocking..." Somebody is very confused. King Obama really has nothing to do with it. It has been U.S. law since 1968 that no Lend/Lease firearms could be returned to the U.S. The CMP had and were not going to have anything to do with the Koreans wanting to sell the M1 Rifles and Carbines they were given either.
In any case, there's no reason to think our lot would allow 'em into Canada.

Who's gonna save US from the effin Lieberals?????:(

I think it's to late in the game for that. They picked door number three!!!

Garands are totally legal to hunt with 8 round enblocs in Ontario.

Put 3 fired cases in your clip. In the bottom. Or dummy rounds with no primer or powder.

Paid $350 for a Winchester in the 3,000,000 range and $650 for a rebuilt Springfield in the 4,500,000 serial number range.

A local gun store was saying that one of his suppliers offered him a crate of grands....not sure if it is true or not , but supposedly they have a container of them. Was asking if I was interested . Told him not really at the price right now. No he didn't tell me the price, but I assumed they are at the ee price range.

In Alberta a semi auto centrefire is limited to 5 for HUNTING. Regardless of the Garand is specifically allowed to hold 8 in the CCC. The hunting regs may be different. Check first.
