I was gonna say if it walks like a duck and looks like a duck and sounds like a duck...
Then that must be a Savage Model 99 in 300 Savage.

Mine is very similar. It is drilled and tapped for an aperture sight, no provision for mounting a scope. Fine rifles, very popular in their day.

Yes it's a 99EG from the early 1950's.

Someone added sling studs and drilled and tapped it for scope mounts, they didn't D&T them at the factory until '57-'58.

Savage Mod. 99's are still very popular in Ontario deer camps. Most are family heirlooms that have received tons of TLC for decades.

Beautiful rifles. I had a Savage 99 in .243 and in a moment of temporary insanity - I sold it off. It was perfect for the deer woods.

The 99 is a classic for sure, and the 300 savage, while overshadowed since the introduction of the 308, is still a great medium range medium game cartridge. Back in its day this was one of "the" rifles to have. Especially in bushy country

My son and I have both had the pleasure of potting a buck over the last couple years with my father-in-laws 99 in 300 Sav.
A classic for sure.

My father had the same rifle and caliber since we'll before I was born and I am now 60. He gave it to one of his grandsons years ago and he has not looked at it since. Classic rifle.
