Being that this is the gunsmith part of gunnutz, ..Has anyone worked on one , pro/con..etc. Or where they just a myth...
Like I said....no a true gunsmith question, but maybe one that could be ,best answered by someone that has been there-done that.

My understanding of the 44 based CF guns was that they were essentially crap, and better as a rimfire.

In blunt terms, anyways.

They have the same shortcomings as the Favorite, the action relies upon two screws to support the entire load of the cartridge firing, with no other locking surfaces involved to hold things together.

Like as not, the best source you will find for decent info online would be on the ASSRA site forum.

My nickel. Buy a 44 1/2, or one of the modern incarnations (CPA, at singleshotrifles.com). Real falling block, comparable to a Winchester 1885 for strength.
