And damn did I come close. I never really tried this before, and I still had a tag in my pocket, and a few slugs. I started off goose hunting, but the tree's looked so deery, I couldn't resist. A few years ago, I bought a rattle bag, and always carry it, but never really used it. So I'm in a pretty thick spot, and decide what the heck? I started rattling, and then stopped. A few minutes later, I hear a deer moving through the brush. It couldn't have been more than 50 yards away, but the most I could see was about 20. It moved from my left, to the downwind side. I never heard it bust out once it did get downwind, but everything went still, except for a few voles running at my feet. I was getting pumped! When I see it used on tv, the bucks come running in, throwing discretion to the wind. I wasn't really expecting anything, but I was surprised I got a reaction at all. It really was exciting though, and I'll definatly do it again. And if it were not for the fact that I'm still sick like a dog, I'd still be out there making noise. :D Anyone else ever have any luck rattling?

Rattling has more to do with time of year/weather/temperature/proximities than it has to do with any hi-tech equipment. A couple of bamboo sticks make a very realistic "clack" that will carry quite aways and alert any bucks of your false intentions.
