I waited too long, but I'll make up for it!

Last night I went duck hunting for the first time. Wow, what a blast!

I've been traditionally a big game hunter as that was what I was raised with. I remember my Dad taking me out once to go duck hunting near Vancouver and I messed up his hunt! I was only about 8 years old at the time, but he let me bring along my own "gun". It was a pop gun, the kind with a cork on a string. I guess when the ducks come in close, I would stand up and fire, yep, scaring off the ducks before my Dad could get off a shot. Anyway, my Dad wasn't too into duck hunting and rarely went out before that or after.

But last night was great! A friend took me out and we set up on a nice pond. It was clear and the ducks kept coming in. I was really impressed with his Lab retrieving the ducks.

I missed my fair share of ducks, but I did limit out!! :50cal:
The thing I liked most was that I got to keep shooting and I can go out tomorrow and do the same thing! With big game, sometimes one shot and your season is over.

My only regret is that I forgot to bring a camera to take a pic of my first duck. Oh well, I will be going out again this weekend and will take pics then.

Icon, congrats, wingshooting is fun, isn't it. Ducks are a blast, but now you have to find yourself a ruffed grouse covert or two, or perhaps a flock of sharptail to chase (or pheasants, or huns). Between all the waterfowl and upland species to hunt, the season lasts a long time and you get to go out again and again ...

Cameras are great for recording those moments you just can't adequately describe. Welcome to the fraternity. Watch it though. With decoys, calls, waders, shells, dog, dog supplies etc. etc... it can get pricey. Costs me a few grand a year and that's when I don't drop the expensive camera into the lake.:(
