I am a big fan of the looks of the 1911's I think they are ###y as hell and I am strongly leaning in
that direction for my next gun purchase, my wife has the S&W .22A-1 and we both like that so the
other two are in the running but at a distance. I want this .22 to be a long term plinker and as
much as I like my old ROHM RG63 it's something I want to take out every now and then when I
get that urge to shoot a revolver, not an every weekend gun.

Citadel M-1911 .22

German Sport Guns 1911 .22

Browning 1911-22 A1 Rimfire Single Action Semi-Auto Pistol - 22 LR

will look at these next two but really liking the 1911 style.
Smith & Wesson Semi Auto Rimfire Pistol - SW22 Victory, 22LR,

Ruger 22/45 Target Rimfire Semi-Auto Pistol - 22 LR

I have the GSG 1911, the S&W Victory and the Ruger 22/45. The Ruger also takes all kinds of 1911 grips (grip panels to be exact.)

The GSG is fun and takes all 1911 grips. Makes like you own a dozen of them.
The Ruger and the S&W are very accurate.
If you go for the Ruger 22/45 make sure you get the Mark IV for ease of disassembly AND reassembly.

I can only speak to the GSG - I have the “Sig” version. Needs to be clean and well lubed. I disassembled and lubed before putting any rounds down range, and I got about 200-250 rounds before feeding/ejecting issues. If you’re lazy with your cleaning it may bite you. Super fun pistol though

Did you upgrade the guide rod, spring etc?

OP, I got the Sig 1911-22 and 1000 rounds of CCI HV ammo for ~$500 all in from Tenda. I also bought the ZRTS upgrade package for it.

I loved the way the Browning felt though, super light.

I have only three 22's: the GSG 1911 with the ZRTS Performance Package, the Grand Power K22S and the Norinco M93 Sportsman.
The most accurate is the Grand Power K22S. It has a polymer reinforced grip but the rest, including slide, is made of good ordnance steel. It comes with four back straps and with a proper back strap the grip fits my hand like a glove. I've never had any stoppages with any 22LR ammo. I can shoot that pistol for hours.
The GSG 1911/ZRTS is second and the Performance Package makes it immune to whatever problems with ammo. Eats happily every 22LR ammo I've used.
The M93 is a fun to shoot pistol. Full steel, no polymer/plastic. In the accuracy department it's on par with the GSG 1911. However, it's for a long time gone from the market. From time to time, could be found on the EE.

Cleaning is a non issue, my guns are kept very clean and well looked after, I want reliability, fun and function and to have a cool gun in the process.
I think the looks of the 1911 fit the cool gun to a T.

I have both the gsg 1911 .22 and the browning 1911 .22 . They are both great guns. I have to say though, the browning is by far my favorite. It's so cool, scaled down to the .22, so much fun to shoot one of my favorite guns. Super accurate and eats everything once you have it worn in and get maintenance right (not too much oil). It has the odd hangup, but the gsg gets hangups much more frequently, something I kind of expect with .22 anyway. The gsg is also very accurate and is cool in how it has next to no recoil very light, and neat if you also own another 1911 in .45.

In closing they're both great. The browning is a novelty, extremely cool and fun gun. The gsg is a full size replica super low recoil fun and cheap. Personally, I would buy the browning first. It's more money, but worth it. I will never sell my browning 1911 .22, it's too cool. You may not like the small grip if you have really big hands though, I find it perfect for a .22 and adjust for it. However the gsg is not a bad choice, they are both fun, buy both!!

I have a S&W M&P .22 that is fun and accurate and a great training gun as it is almost identical to its bigger brothers.
Recently I picked up one of the new S&W .22 Victory and wow is it a great gun. Modular for upgrades, (have some on the way from TandemKross) comes with a rail onto which I put a red dot and its more accurate than I am. So far, I’ve put everything from CCI minimags and standard velocity down to crappy Winchester X and Remmy golden and the thing fires everything. And it’s a snap to disassemble and clean.
My 9mm CZ is getting jealous as it sits in the bag or in the safe….

Another option if you're looking at a 1911 in .22 is the "Colt" (Walther/Umarex) pistol, like this one http://www.bullseyelondon.com/colt-gold-cup-1911-a1-22lr-pistol-canada.html

I've had mine for several years and it's worked beautifully and the wear on the slide has been really non-existent. When I was comparing it to the GSG (Sig also has a self-branded GSG), I had seen a lot of feedback on the slide finish and notch for the slide lock showing wear pretty quickly, which pushed me toward the Colt. There's a good comparison here:
