I have a 870 wing that I use for clays. Not bad for ata but I find it hard to do wobble trap to get the second shot off. I was looking to spent 1000-1500 on a new gun. I will be using it for mostly clays but would like to be able to use it for upland hunts too. I looked at a cz redhead but after reading reviews it seems like they are a POS. I was looking at o/u's but I don't think I will get a good quality one for what I want to spend. Any suggestion on what to look at would be great.

I have been looking onto the

Browning Gold Fusion
Browning Evolve
and so far it seems like they are all good and its just fit and personal preference. All seem to perform excellent but have thier little quirks. None have any major problems though.

O/U shotguns are usually more expensive than pumps and autoloaders. Dedicated sporting versions cost even more.
For the kind of money you want to spend, you may be able to find a used Browning or Beretta in good condition. Just make sure you are not buying someone else's lemon. Reputable gunshops should be able to offer you a refund/exchange for at least 30 days. I have bought many used guns and never had a problem.
If you prefer to buy new (with warranty) there are only two relatively inexpensive ones that I would recommend :
- The Sporting version of the Baikal Izh-27 : Upgraded from their field model with 30" ported barrels, wider vent rib, better quality stock/finishing and a few other goodies. Most places are selling them for around $ 875 + tax
- The competition version of the Stoeger Condor : It comes with an adjustable comb and lots of other nice features. Price should be around $ 700 + tax.
I prefer the Baikal model (I had an old field model in the past). Current owners of the Stoeger and the Baikal over/unders will be able to provide you with more information.
The Franchi Renaissance/Alcione models and Winchester Select are nice guns too. But they'll cost you over 2 grand once you add in the taxes. Same with the Ruger o/u.

The Extrema 2 is indeed a very good WATERFOWL Gun ... and definitely not a a target/upland gun !!
My son has an AL391 Parrelle Target and has been shooting it now for just over a year. He's not had a problem with it and has shot everything from light 3/4oz loads up to heavy 3" 1 7/8oz loads threw it and never a problem. It's an excellent all around gun.

From the list that you have provided I do not see a clays gun there at all. You have listed many fine guns that are field guns and good hunting guns. If you want to have a successful shooting experience I would suggest going to a clays gun in order to have the right point of inpact to shoot the sport. There are many guns out there that will just do and get you by and that is all they will do. If you like the 391 series of Berettas then go with a clays gun. Teknys makes a good sporter version as well as Urika's etc. Another gun that is coming on strong is the Benelli Super Sport.
Just my thoughts and opinion.

If you already know and trust Remington, take a look at the 11-87... basically an 870 with a gas system. They are reliable, versatile (3" chamber), well within your price range, and you will hear a lot of positive reviews from 11-87 owners.
Edit: I read on another thread here today that 11-87s don't cycle 1oz loads. Now I've been shooting 1oz loads almost exclusively lately and they cycle just as well as 1 1/8 target loads.

there are 3 guys at the gun club that im currently in and they all have the Teknys and all had problems with the action and had to send them back to Beretta for repairs..
there are about 5-6 people that i can think of that have the 391 xtrema, and they have not had a problem, and all love it...
so from what i see, i would go with the xtrema.

I'd be interested in finding out what the problem is as well. Some of the 391 series guns have had trouble with a run of bent shell lifters which results n misfeeding. It's not a problem exclusive to Beretta. I know the owner of a Browning Gold who is having exactly the same problems. It's also not a common problem among Beretta autos. I own one and know about a dozen other people who do and none have complained about about problems nor required warranty work.Gasanwu said:What problem is that??? Another vote for the 391 Urika. I too prefer the Parallel Target.

I bought my son a new Raptor and I love it...ported barrel, real pretty wood, swings fast and smooth, low recoil, and it digests pretty much any ammo...all that I tried anyway. I usually shoot a Beretta 682 S, so it took a little getting used to. I hadnt shot skeet in 5 years..went to the club and smashed in a 23 and 25...And, this shotgun is light and easy to carry. I like it...my 2 cents..

I just picked up a Ruger Red Label, the sporting clays version with 30" bbl for just over $1500, which for a new OU isn't bad. I didn't know a lot about the Rugers, but now that I've had a chance to get it out a few times, I love it.
