I was sitting hear all confused cause I am sure they are still available in a can but I don't like them so who knows then I noticed the 1911's

These were special long term storage apocalypse cans, a child of the cold war.

I have seen pics of ones holding garands, there were all sorts containing different items.

The Springfield Armory National Historic Site, Springfield MA, had cans of 1911s, SMGs, and even possibly Garands I remember seeing them as a kid and thinking that was so cool. It's also where I learned that Garand was a transplanted Canadian.
