I want a Ruger American in .450 Bushmaster. WHERE???

Just received my Ruger American Ranch in .450 Bushmaster from IRunGuns.

Will take it to the range this weekend.

Looks good enough to go bang and make holes! Lemme know how the range goes, I"d really like one of these.

For range plinking that would be okay. For hunting no way I would trust that mag.

While picking up my ruger today, I tried the 450 rounds in the ruger precision rifle and magpul magazines (polymer 308 AICS). It looks like they will feed fine from what we could see at the LGS. Going to order the MDT LSS chassis for it and have the heavy one piece bolt fluted to reduce the weight further when I have some time.

I'm not sure if the 250gr Hornady ammo with the ftx uses a bullet designed for a rifle or they just took a pistol bullet and stuffed it in.

Mine shoots under an inch with the factory loaded Remington 260gr bullet. It is their own design specifically for the caliber and what I will be using come hunting season

I went to the range yesterday and with 225 Hornady FTX bullets got a 0.3" group at 50 yards with enough Lil Gun to reach 2380fps. Loaded length is 2.240 and Hitting the chickens at 200 Meters is dead easy. I am liking this little carbine!

Here is the 450 American ranch in a MDT LSS. Function is perfect with the 308 AICS type magazines and gives you 6rnd capacity (7 if you insert with an open bolt)

Now that is a cool combo I like it a lot but I'd like a folding stock on it though.

I may have to order a 450 Bushmaster after all.

I shot mine for the first time on the weekend. I don't think the recoil was as much as a 30-06 shooting 180 gn . Fun gun to shoot. Best 3 shot group at 100 yds was .762 outside(.310 center to center) using Hornady 250 gn FTX.
Scott...

My American ranch has taken two deer so far. One was shot at the base of the skull and nearly took the head off.

The other one was shot at about 100yards through brush, quartering away, bullet ended up hitting the spine, traveled diagonally through about 6" of spine and out the other side. Bullet was likely deflected by brush as the spine was not the point of aim.

Shooting Remington Premium 260gr

back to the heavy stomper, G.?

really nice little carbine.

Phil.

did you weight the weight of the bullet found in the moose?

I've been continuing to think about scoring one of these rifles even held one now I would instantly remove that huge muzzle brake don't need a break on a little cartridge like this.

I have appr 2000 .452" wide meplat hard cast - FTX - XTP mag bullets from 200gr - 225gr - 240gr - 250gr - 280gr - 300gr - 345gr - 390gr - 405gr I also have a box of Bullet Barn cast and a box of 50 Ranger Rick's 535gr WLNGC's...

So other than a rifle all I need is dies and brass and another mag to get by until I go to an LSS stock Rusty Wood has listed that they can get Starline brass.

I would mount my VX3 LR 4.5-14X40mm to work up loads then swap it to a fairly new VX3 1-5X duplex reticle scope to hunt with.

I contacted Rusty Wood Trading Company in Mission BC yesterday they told me that Hornady is the only company making reloading dies for the 450 Bushmaster I was quoted $155.00 to order them in and Starline brass is now available but on special order only so far 100 goes for $127.20.

I just use factory ammo as it is rather accurate and easy to source.

One thing you have to remember is that many 452 bullets were designed for pistol velocity, not rifle.

Remington was going to be selling TSX loaded rounds via their hog hammer line, but expansion was an issue so it never came to market.

Remingtons own accutip was designed for the rifle and I believe Hornady ftx is just a pistol bullet

^hornady makes magnum 300 and 240 grain xtp bullets for the 460 S&W and 454 Casull, I'm sure they could "handle the heat"

I definitely have appropriate bullets my concern with the bullets I have are that the wide meplat cast bullets will have feeding issues.
