When it comes to semis I think you're going to get what you pay for generally. The lower your budget the less happy you'll be with the gun. There's always exceptions though.
 
thanks muckwa, i want that bulk ammo factor, if not I would choose a different piil, bearkilr. Nice to hear from someone who has both, I know th bolt will be more accurate. The fun coyote/plinker hit the nail on the head. I just wanted a little longer tube and a hunting look, in a semi. I think I will search harder for a 762x39 version. Just seems odd that no one builds a decent lower cost semi in 223 considering the cheap ammo is perfect for semi. if someone like savage built one it would fly off the shelves I am sure.

Any ideas, with the bulk ammo factor, please let me know,,,,,,,,,,
 
Ruger Mini-14 Ranch or Target rifle.

Look better in real life than on their website. Know a couple guys that use them for coyote hunting, no problems.
 
I had a Ruger mini 14 that did not shoot well at all. I got rid of it. But I do hear stories about how they changed some things on them and now they shoot much better.

Maybe I'll have to give one a second chance.

Here is a new question for all of you who know. Is there a caliber that has the bulk ammo factor in a semi auto hunting rifle?

7.62x39 = SKS or non restricted 858 ........ would be perfect for yotes out to about 150 yards I would think. Not "hunting" rifles but a can or two of OD/green/tan spray paint can fix that. The SKS would be well within your budget to still mount a proper Choate scope mount and a decent scope & still have $$$ for a crate of ammo to boot! Nice wood stock, cammoed up & no pistol grip so just remove the bayonet & cleaning rod & add a decent sling & you're done!

Just thought of it ...... there's some pretty sweet wood aftermarket stocks for the SKS if you wanted to go that route too.
 
Thanks boltonscouter. I have 2 sks, and on 858, didn't want to scope them, but rather leave them stock. Have one izzy and one tula sks, and am thinking about scoping the tula. Realy didn't want to but just might.
 
The smallest BAR ever offered was a 243.

The VQ is much nicer, insanely more accurate than the Mini14.

If you want an auto loader in 223 that's your choices, or just jump up to 243 and pick almost any make auto loader.
 
See what did I tell yall, not sure what I told yall, but I did. These manufacturers are missing out on a very big golden boat. If browning or even rem or even anyone brought out a couple of good old fashion semi offerings in 223, and maybe 762x39, they would need a dedicated plant just to keep up with the orders. How about if norinco started building, non corrosive bulk 243 ammo, and maybe good ol 308,,, oh my heart is fluttering. The line up to buy a BAR would be real long if there were 243 bulk ammo, hell every black builder out there would be on that as well. It just don't make sense to not have anything between a 22, and a 243, in a hunting semi. I'll quit whining now.
 
I guess you just can't get a half @ss, accurate smaller caliber hunting semi, which would have the bulk ammo wow factor. I wonder if the Europeans, East or West build anything that we just don't see, in 556, or 762x39. I haven't seen anything but maybe.
 
I hear ya ranger but don't really like the mini, heard to may mixed feelings about that gun, kinda hit, and miss, on the accuracy thing.
