Does anyone else have this problem(that’s what my wife calls it)? Is there a target rifle that I can shoot 1000yrds + that I can also hunt with? Should I limit what I get or get rid of the wife?

If you had one of everything, you would by definition have an ideal gun for anything you wanted to do.

One gun for both 1000-yard targets and hunting? That would be a terrible compromise for both purposes.

Believe it or not, there is a huge middle ground between having one of everything and one for everything.

Sure there are rifles that could handle both, depending on what type of target shooting and what type of hunting you are doing.
A quick twist .223 with appropriate scope would work for both long range target and varmint hunting.
But would be a poor choice for hunting deer in heavy bush.

Of course there are rifles that can handle 1000 yds and would also make fine hunting rifles.

I have a Savage Precision Carbine in 308 that I have shot to 1200 yds and 308 is certainly capable as a hunting rifle. Any halfway decent 6.5 Creedmoor could also do both. There are numerous "hunting" cartridges that are capable of 1000yds.

Rifle wise you will need to thread the needle a bit. Look for something with a medium heavy or "varmint" profile barrel. That'll handle 1000 yds no problem and not be too heavy to carry around hunting.

I was happily married for 30 years…took 3 wives to do it !!! Told a friend happiness was buying 1 new gun every month. He told me to try 1 new gun per week. He was right. Ps…ditto on some pics of your wife, don’t be such a tease. lol

Was kidding, I don't need a pic of your wife. I've been buying whatever firearms I want for 25 years, I know what the perfect woman looks like. She sits across the table from me and shares my bed. Occasionally comes out for a shotgun match at our backyard range too. Calls my beretta 1301 "hers".....

Good answer.
