I want to bubba my M38, am I a horrible person?

Hey the mosin he bubba'd in the article wasn't a run of the mill mosin nagant. You can tell by the different rear sight.
I always wanted to put a pu scope on a m38 , it would be sweet! A mini sniper lol

Nope. I mentioned it was a m91 and he kind of snaped back saying he knows its an 91/30... and its not, its the first type. The m91 and theyre even longer then a 91/30 so i assumed he was baseing the idea off the longer rilfe.

Why not buy something like a sporterized lee Enfield and sell or put the the m38 away. I think a chopped lee might fit your needs better. They can be found drilled and tapped and already have turned down bolt. They can still be found for cheep. Just a thought

well i wouldnt call it bubba'ing anything if you cna take it apart and put it back to original form. That is not bubba'ing at all. It's your do what you want with it. If you were gonna grind away at the stock etc etc. i'd say nay but again, not mine. p.s. im guilty of a little bubba myself :p hahahahaha its all in good safe shooting fun right
cheers

Call me contrary, but I find something cool about the idea of dropping a moose with a Mosin instead of a more common hunting rifle. I watched a documentary on Netflix about professional Russian woodsmen in Siberia and seeing old Mosins and SKSs slung across their shoulders as they trudged through the wilderness gave me the warm and fuzzies.

The article about making an express rifle out of a mosin just sealed the deal. I love the concept of a rugged, unbreakable iron-sighted warhorse that I can take through anything.

Hey have fun! You will learn in the process. Just check that this rifle you have is not "special" or anything.
I bubba my Yugo SKS M59... Ya I know. For me an SKS was an SKS, wrong! I should have done it with a cheap Chinese SKS!

I'm all for milsurps in stock trim but have no problems with modifying one if it can be put back to stock easily, just make sure you keep the parts you take off. If you were cutting or drilling I'd say you're nuts to screw up such a clean looking rifle.

You can do that without modifying a Mosin.

That's what I was going to say. Or get even ###ier and buy a sporterized Ross M-10. The ross is the best conversation piece and in the common .303 The Ross even shoots better than the rest of the milsurps even the swiss k-31. But that's another cool rifle you could get a k-31 but ammo is harder to find than .303
